Job Summary:

The Lead Test Engineer will work in a project team environment in a leadership capacity with domain over all controllable solid rocket motor testing across multiple test sites, requiring significant travel. Responsibilities will include leading and participating in test site design, planning and facility readiness activities, test planning and execution, and data management, collection and distribution.

Responsibilities:

  • Support test site requirements creation, design and implementation.
  • Review device and system level functional specifications, design documents and project documents.
  • Lead the review of design and coding of software products.
  • Ensure that all developed test protocols are and/or can be automated, follow testing standards, and are documented.
  • Develop work estimates and status reports for each test site and/or effort.
  • Maintain adequate interaction with the project manager, the project engineer and project team members to ensure that tasks are being executed with appropriate priority and timing.
  • Lead and coordinate part or all of the testing effort for multiple projects. This usually requires development and tracking of test plans and test schedules as well as the reporting of test results.
  • Provide leadership, technical knowledge and assistance to more junior team members

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years’ experience in test engineering with demonstrated technical skills.
  • Previous experience assembling, integrating and testing Controllable Solid Rocket Motors.
  • Hands-on experience with controllable solid rocket motor test tools and equipment.
  • Experience with propulsion related requirements and test procedures/analysis/verification methods as well as manufacturing methods, tooling, and test procedures.
  • Ability to identify, mitigate and resolve propulsion related assembly and test risks/issues/opportunities.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively individually and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to mentor fellow colleagues on controllable solid rocket motor fundamentals, manufacturing and test requirements to achieve optimal test sites, plans and procedures required for success.
  • Must exhibit good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Capable of multi-tasking; working on multiple projects and supporting production activities.
  • Strong technical background; capable of coming up-to-speed quickly on new technologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and basic mechanical engineering concepts related to bed of nail test fixtures design and construction.
  • Ability to support the design of test fixtures required to successfully test Controllable Solid Rocket Motors.
  • Previous experience in the Defense industry and Defense rated components
  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM related discipline, or equivalent experience.

The salary range represents the base salary range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors. Those include but are not limited to location, experience, and performance.
