Yelp is looking for an all-star employment lawyer to join its tight-knit legal team, which supports Yelp in its efforts to connect millions of people with great local businesses. Yelp is a profitable and growing publicly-traded consumer internet company with thousands of employees located primarily in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Germany.
This is a full-time position that can be based anywhere in the U.S. Yelp’s legal team currently has lawyers in California, Illinois, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
We’d love to have you apply, even if you don’t feel you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Yelp, we’re looking for great people, not just those who simply check off all the boxes. This is a full-time remote role based in the United States.
What you'll do:
- Support Yelp’s global human resources organization, focusing primarily on our U.S. employee population.
- Provide critical counseling and support on a broad range of employment issues such as recruiting, hiring, wage and hour, performance management, investigations, leaves of absence, accommodations, work authorization, employment and independent contractor classifications, employee privacy, pay equity, compensation and benefits.
- Strategically manage employment disputes, including administrative hearings and other pre-litigation matters.
- Support our litigation team in connection with employment-related litigation and arbitration.
What it takes to succeed:
- J.D. from a top law school with bar admission in good standing
- 5+ years of experience in employment law, including day-to-day advice and counseling, handling administrative hearings and providing litigation support
- Prior in-house experience is preferred
- Experience with Canadian and/or European employment law is a plus
- Experience successfully working cross-functionally with multiple teams of stakeholders
- Strong work ethic, sense of professionalism and team player mentality
- Optimistic attitude with a willingness to get into the nitty gritty
- Ability to adeptly tackle new areas of law and think creatively about unique and complex issues
- Excellent legal and business judgment
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills with a rigorous devotion to detail and organization
We strongly value cover letters as an opportunity for you to explain your interest and ability to succeed in this role rather than rehashing your resume. Also, we ask that you dedicate a paragraph of your cover letter to comment on an interesting legal topic that has recently been in the news.
What you'll get:
- Effective your first day: Full medical, vision, and dental
- 15 days PTO (accrual begins on date of hire and increases with 2+ years of tenure thereafter), 12 paid holidays, plus one floating holiday
- Up to 14 weeks of parental leave
- Monthly wellness subsidy
- Work from home reimbursement
- Flexible spending account
- 401(k) retirement savings plan
- Employee stock purchase plan
- Compensation range for this position is $135,000-$226,000 annually. You may also be offered a bonus, equity, and benefits.
