Wherobots is looking for a passionate, skilled, and experienced Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to help architect, build, and operate the geospatial cloud database of the future, including the cloud platform and control plane that make it secure, reliable, and scalable.

This is a DevOps-first role with meaningful security ownership. You will spend most of your time building reliable, scalable cloud infrastructure and developer platforms, while also owning core security and compliance operations (including SOC 2 Type 2 cadence). If you can design clean networking, automate everything in Terraform, and keep security practical instead of ceremonial, we should talk.

We are 100% cloud-native and build our product using modern, reliable tooling. We use Python, Java, and Golang services deployed on Kubernetes in cloud environments.

If you are passionate about building cutting-edge cloud infrastructure and want to be part of a fast-growing company at the forefront of geospatial technology, we would love to hear from you. Apply now and join the Wherobots team!

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate platform infrastructure: Design and implement modular, secure-by-design, reliable-by-design infrastructure-as-code platforms for product engineering.
  • Own cloud networking architecture: Design and manage VPC/network topology, routing, DNS, private connectivity, service-to-service access patterns, and secure remote access. Experience with Tailscale/WireGuard-style zero-trust networking is highly desired.
  • Improve reliability and performance: Continuously monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize backend infrastructure for uptime, latency, and operational efficiency.
  • Enable engineering velocity: Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver self-service infrastructure and reduce operational friction.
  • Embed pragmatic security: Shift security left in CI/CD and IaC workflows with practical controls, guardrails, and automation.
  • Run security and compliance cadence: Own SOC 2 Type 2 operational rhythms including control execution, access reviews, vulnerability remediation tracking, and evidence collection.
  • Strengthen incident readiness: Help define and maintain incident response playbooks, and participate in incident investigations and remediation.
  • Raise the bar: Contribute to architecture reviews, code reviews, and infrastructure best practices across the organization.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure roles in cloud-native SaaS environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one major cloud provider (AWS and/or GCP).
  • Strong networking fundamentals and practical production experience with cloud networking and secure connectivity models.
  • Production experience with zero-trust/private networking platforms (Tailscale strongly preferred).
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting/programming languages such as Python, Go, or Bash.
  • Experience operating CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent).
  • Practical security and compliance experience, including SOC 2 or similar frameworks.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills in distributed teams.

Nice to Have (Optional)

  • Experience integrating security tooling into CI/CD (SAST/DAST, container or dependency scanning)
  • Experience with centralized logging, threat detection, and incident response workflows
  • Familiarity with geospatial data platforms (bonus, not required)
