Waymo's Supply Chain teams are making the technology of the future a reality. We are responsible for the end-to-end management of our hardware supply base, from strategic sourcing and contract negotiation to quality and delivery. We partner closely with Waymo's Engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure the critical components in our autonomous driving system are delivered on time, at the right cost, and function flawlessly.
You will:
- Develop and manage Contract Manufacturers, currently in Asia, to support the design and manufacturing of the current and next generation self driving systems (SDS)
- Support the overall Sourcing Strategy for contract manufacturing @ Waymo through flawless execution
- Manage the development (NPI), production builds, risk mitigation and ramp from a commercial perspective for the current & next-gen architecture modules made at these CMs
- Drive schedule, capacity and supply planning to meet development and production demands with these CMs, focusing on module assembly, test and PCBA manufacturing.
- Evaluate technical and business risks using data based analysis and develop sound risk mitigation alternatives.
- Provide cross-functional support with HW Engineering, Manufacturing, Technical Program Manager, Legal, finance and operations
- Perform cost modeling, negotiation and execution of part and assembly cost strategy for these modules @ these CMs; Understand & create should cost models, costed bill of material of Waymo’s SDS modules; Support cost, supplier scorecard creation and other Supply Chain requirements at a regular cadence
- Drive communication between CMs and Waymo internal teams such as Engineering, Manufacturing, TPM, Supplier Quality
- Drive issue prioritization and resolution with the CMs, working collaboratively with Engineering, TPM, Supplier Quality
- Develop contracts and SOWs working with Waymo Legal and CM Commercial Leadership
You have:
- 5-7+ years of experience working with similar products and contract manufacturers in Asia such as Quanta, Flextronics, Foxconn for hi-tech industry (Autonomous vehicle industry also ok)
- Bachelor's degree required - Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- Good understanding of supply chain within the autonomous vehicle or other high-tech industries - industry dynamics, challenges, how NPI works
- Knowledge of product bill-of-materials and MVA (Manufacturing Value Added) pricing
- 5+ years Experience in negotiation for module/system unit pricing, development costs, working with cross-functional teams
- Experience in a manufacturing site that receives materials, assembles them into a system/module, and does the final testing of high-tech products
- Professional proficiency in written and verbal English
We prefer:
- Master’s degree or MBA is a plus
- Experience working within a fast-paced high-tech industry with a good understanding of Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing, and module/system manufacturing
- Prior work experience at Apple, Google, Meta, Amazon or Tesla manufacturing their systems
- Prior experience working on mechanicals and optics supply chain is a plus
The expected base salary range for this full-time position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
