Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. The Core Platform team is responsible for software and infrastructure on various components of the Waymo self-driving system. The team’s scope covers everything from low-level system software to high-bandwidth data logging, IPC (low-latency and high-throughput), performance analysis, full-system debugging, system telemetry, etc. We work closely with the Hardware, Compute, Sensor, Perception, Behavior and Machine Learning teams to build the most performant and low-latency self-driving solution in the industry. You will report to the Director of the Platforms organization.

While each day at Waymo is different, your primary responsibilities will include:

• Lead a small team of software engineers to design and implement platform software components through production and launch
• Set the technical direction for your team partnering with a variety of onboard stakeholders
• Architect Platform Software components for high-performance systems including custom ASICs and accelerators

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

• BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years of relevant work experience
• Experience leading, setting technical direction, and mentoring engineers
• Hands on development of systems running on Linux embedded platforms
• Proficiency in C or C++

It's preferred if you also have:

• Knowledge of one or more of the following: GPUs, ML accelerators, power management, high-performance networking, performance optimization
• Motivated with an inclination to take on complex and ambiguous problems
• Experience in dealing with existing, complex systems and codebases
