Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's autonomous driving technology, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.
In this role, you'll:
- Develop and implement hardware automation solutions to improve efficiency and productivity
- Provide design feedback to vendors to improve on vendor designs
- Troubleshoot and debug hardware issues on upcoming equipment
- Develop and maintain hardware documentation
- Work with other engineers and technicians to ensure successful completion of projects
- Clearly communicate the requests from the Mountain View, CA based Automation Engineers
- Run GR&R and CPK’s prior to shipping equipment
- Run DOE’s for early equipment development efforts
- Work with Asia-based equipment vendors
At a minimum we’d like you to have:
- A BS or MS degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or similar discipline. An equivalent amount of real-life experience is also welcome
- Direct interaction with hardware in a previous role
- 5+ years of Electrical/Mechanical/Software Engineering experience
- Run FAT/Qualification of equipment for vendors based in Asia
- Design and build test/assembly systems to validate the functionality of hardware components and systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and ability to work collaboratively with counterparts in the US
- Ability to travel nationally/internationally approximately 1x per month (20% of time)
It’s preferred if you have:
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering tools
- Knowledge of C++ and Python
- The ability to debug complex electrical, mechanical, optical and software systems
- Delivered finished designs to volume production and taken products through manufacturing
