Virgin Galactic is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to help design, implement, secure, and support enterprise network environments across all company locations. This role will be hands-on and project-driven, with responsibility for day-to-day network operations, complex troubleshooting, network security, and long-term architecture improvements. You will work closely with internal IT teams as well as external vendors, carriers, and partners to ensure the network remains secure, scalable, stable, and highly available.

Responsibilities

  • Design, enhance, and support enterprise data, voice, and video networks across all Virgin Galactic locations
  • Ensure the network is secure, available, stable, efficient, and scalable
  • Implement, optimize, and manage internal and external network connectivity to support secure data transfer across multiple environments
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points
  • Configure and maintain Azure networking services
  • Complete network projects end-to-end, including planning, implementation, testing, documentation, and handoff
  • Support and enforce technical architecture policies, procedures, and standards
  • Serve as an escalation point for other IT team members and provide technical guidance in support of the broader application and systems environment
  • Work alongside vendors, clients, carriers, and technical staff to deliver network solutions and resolve issues
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting across Layer 1–7, including spanning tree, link aggregation, ACLs, and routing protocols
  • Recommend network hardware purchases and track warranty/support renewal
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and support after-hours work as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the IT Infrastructure Manager
  • Work collaboratively to achieve goals and/or complete assigned tasks
  • Adhere to set directions and guidelines from team leader to support collaboration across teams to complete projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required Skills and Experience

  • Typically requires bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent level of experience with 8 years of hands-on experience in enterprise Network Engineering/Administration, Network Support, and/or Network Design.
  • Network certifications are a plus (CCNA, CCNP, Network+)
  • Azure networking experience is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of network routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, and network security best practices
  • Demonstrated experience building and troubleshooting complex network architectures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to multitask and manage priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts
  • Extensive experience with protocols and technologies such as:
    TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, STP/xSTP, HSRP, VTP, SNMP, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, PTP, CBRS, DWDM, RADIUS, TACACS+, IPSec, PPP, PPTP, 802.11 n/ac/ax, 802.1x, Multicast routing, Structured cabling, Fiber Optics, Microwave, Out-of-Band Management.
  • Strong grasp of Layer 1–7 troubleshooting and enterprise network operations
  • Experience with network monitoring tools and performance/availability monitoring systems
  • Experience with network access control (NAC) technologies and cloud-based web proxies
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity and information security from a networking perspective
  • Multi-vendor network experience strongly preferred (Cisco, Dell, Brocade, Extreme, Palo Alto, etc.)
  • Firewall administration, configuration, and optimization in an enterprise environment (5+ years preferred)
  • Experience with firewall platforms such as Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, or Cisco
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across IT teams and other departments
  • Self-starter who takes ownership of work and professional development
  • Reliable and accountable — consistently meets commitments and project schedules
  • Proactive communicator with strong presentation and documentation skills
  • Supports the success of others through collaboration, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing

Physical and/or Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to work flexible hours outside of normal business hours
  • Be part of on call rotation
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Must be a “U.S. person” as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
  • Ability to routinely lift 20-30 lbs. and occasionally lift and move 40 lbs (unassisted)

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $99,700.00–$152,075.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
