Virgin Galactic is seeking a Senior Spaceline Safety Specialist to support Spaceport and Maintenance activities. This individual will assist in integrating flight safety best practices into Virgin Galactic’s operations and maintenance functions. In conjunction with the Virgin Galactic Safety Team, they will develop proactive annual safety plans that provide solutions necessary to build and sustain a world‐class safety culture. Responsibilities
- Conducts investigations into injuries or incidents in accordance with regulatory, industry, and company standards.
- Analyses data for trends related to injuries, hazards, events and occurrences.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory directives such as: OSHA, FAA, EPA, NTSB, and fire codes.
- Serve as Emergency Response team member.
- Demonstrates excellent safety behavior and attitude, follows regulatory practices and rules, recognizes and promotes hazard reporting and ensures effective safety reporting.
- Acts as an information conduit to bring flight safety issues to the attention of management and to deliver flight safety information to the staff, contractors and stakeholders.
- Builds and maintains excellent working relationship across the organization.
- Provides and articulates information regarding flight safety issues.
- Continually seeks opportunities to improve the knowledge and skill of management and supervisors to positively impact the safe operations of the business.
- Develops and implements effective flight safety programs to ensure that operations are fully compliant with Local, State, and Federal laws/regulations.
- Executes a comprehensive inspection process to ensure continuous improvement while maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Provides required regulatory training and maintains all flight safety related recordkeeping.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical discipline such as Safety, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of safety experience in an Aviation Flight Operations environment, with experience in space related operations a plus
- Aerospace safety experience and a demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis for incident/accident investigations
- FAA knowledge with aviation and/or space certification and licensing activities
- Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA codes and regulations
- Knowledge of systems safety analysis of complex systems, including functional hazard analysis, fault trees, etc.
- Knowledge of risk management practices
- Ability to establish and maintain partnerships across functional areas and a variety of organizational levels
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may occasionally include early or late start times and infrequently weekends
- Ability to respond to serious emergency situations
- Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced start-up environment
- Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to develop and deliver articulate presentations to groups of all sizes and levels
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) strongly preferred
- Preference for program management experience, as well as for a background approving engineering designs for safety considerations
Physical and/or Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work flexible hours outside of normal business hours on occasion.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.
- Physically able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs (unassisted).

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $99,700.00–$152,075.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
