What you'll do

As a Satellite Mission Planning Analyst, you will work at the intersection of aerospace engineering and computer science. You will be responsible for enhancing space mission operations by integrating spacecraft bus health, payload performance, and advanced optimization algorithms. Your goal is to maximize utilization of the satellite while ensuring the safety and operational integrity of the platform.

The day-to-day

  • Space Mission Modeling: Define and integrate constraints for spacecraft bus operations (Power, Thermal, ADCS), communication links (GEO relay and Direct-to-Earth), and payload operation.

  • Payload Commanding: Manage models for Earth imagery collection requirements, including sun angles, duty cycles, and sensor calibration timelines. Be able to read, understand, and generate the commands necessary to realize desired payload operations.

  • Testing & Validation: Participate in Hardware/Software-in-the-Loop (HIL/SIL) testing to validate command sequences and stress-test the system against conflicting mission requests.

  • Data Visualization & Documentation: Develop tools to visualize mission planner outputs (target coverage, footprint placement) and document procedures for future mission operators.

What you'll need

  • Education: B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field.

  • Technical Knowledge: Foundational understanding of satellite subsystems (Power, ADCS, Comms) and orbital mechanics with some understanding of payload operations.

  • Programming & Math: Proficiency in Python or MATLAB (NumPy/Pandas/Matplotlib).

  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to translate physical constraints into formal mathematical logic.

What will help you on the job

  • Familiarity with MBSE tools such as Cameo and design languages (UML, SysML).

  • Managing requirements in Jama or equivalent tool.
