What you'll do

Viasat seeks an experienced professional to head our East Asia portion of our government and regulatory affairs team. The day-to-day

You must be diligent and proactive, show excellent judgment, and have the ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a supportive, team environment. In addition, you will be expected to:

  • Partner closely with other members of Viasat’s government affairs, regulatory, and legal teams, as well as subject matter experts, consultants, and outside advisors, to formulate and implement effective advocacy strategies
  • Liaise with government and regulatory authorities to support Viasat’s licensing and market access activities
  • Manage the preparation and submission of application materials and other regulatory filings that may be required or appropriate given Viasat’s interests and activities in the region
  • Develop detailed comments for submission in various rulemaking and consultation proceedings, develop position papers, and develop other advocacy materials as required
  • Attend national, regional, and international meetings on spectrum matters and related issues
  • Interface and advocate with inter-governmental and government agencies and other agencies with responsibility for spectrum, telecommunications, space, and related matters
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and other policy developments and intervene where appropriate given Viasat’s interests
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with government officials, trade associations, policy organizations and other relevant partners

What you'll need

  • Established track record of success and considerable experience in spectrum management, licensing and policy issues, ITU frameworks and regional organisations
  • Knowledge of satellite and terrestrial communications systems and spectrum planning processes
  • Established contacts and excellent reputation with national regulators, particularly those active in international and regional fora
  • Strong relationship-building and negotiating skills in a multicultural and multi-stakeholder environment
  • Ability to think strategically and advocate clearly and concisely, both in writing and when speaking
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy, together with the ability to manage many simultaneous projects under pressure and consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Engineering or Laws preferred
  • Fluent in English and at least one second language from the East Asia region (written and spoken)
