What you'll do
Viasat seeks an expert attorney to provide legal support for Viasat's business units via the in-house legal department in São Paulo, Brazil. This role will also involve collaboration with the business and legal teams from the United States, other Latin American countries, and Europe. We provide strategic support for satellite telecommunications operations. We ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, draft and review contracts, handle risk, and support business initiatives related to satellite communications, spectrum management, and international regulations.
By joining our legal team, you will gain hands-on experience in satellite telecommunications law, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiations. You will have the opportunity to work on real cases involving spectrum allocation, international agreements, and industry regulations. You'll also engage with various customers, including regulatory agencies, external legal firms, and business units, gaining exposure to the complexities of the satellite industry.
The day-to-day
- Provide advice to all levels of Viasat in the areas of telecommunications transactions, regulation, administrative and litigation matters, and communicate legal concepts in a way that non-lawyers can understand.
- Legal Research & Analysis: Conducting research on laws related to contracts, regulatory, corporate and taxes matters
- Contract Review & Drafting: Assisting in the preparation and review of complex contracts, partnership and service agreements, NDAs, and compliance documents.
- Regulatory Compliance Support: Monitoring changes in laws and preparing summaries or reports for the legal team;
- Risk Assessment: Identifying potential legal risks in business operations and helping develop mitigation strategies.
- Litigation: Lead litigation at all levels and supervise outside litigation counsel.
- Meetings & Teamwork: Participating in meetings with commercial teams, engineers, specialists, and external legal counsels to support business objectives.
What you'll need
- Law degree from a recognized and respected law school and admission to the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB).
- Ability to speak and write (including contract drafting and editing) English at a professional level.
- At least 7 years of legal experience with a respected law firm or company in the following areas (preferably in the telecommunications industry, but will consider experience in other regulated industries):
- Commercial contracts (drafting, reviewing, and negotiation)
- Corporate law (corporate formation, governance and maintenance)
- Tax law (knowledge of tax planning and indirect taxes applicable to telecommunications services is a plus)
- Litigation (external law firm management, preparation and review of strategic pleadings)
- Consumer law (handling administrative and judicial claims)
- Regulatory law (experience with ANATEL or regulated technology sectors is preferred)
- Microsoft Office Proficiency – Experience using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to conduct legal research using national and international sources.
- Ability to assess legal risks, interpret regulations, and apply critical thinking to real-world cases.
- Strong Written and Verbal Communication – Ability to clearly articulate legal concepts and draft well-structured documents.
- Proactive Approach – Ability to take initiative, handle multiple tasks, and ensure accuracy in legal documents.
- Ability to work at least 3 days per week in person at the Viasat office in São Paulo during business hours.

- Familiarity with additional areas of law such as labor and privacy.
- Post graduate degree in public, regulatory, privacy, or intellectual property law.
