What you'll do
The OEM Field Support & Integration Engineer, is a key member of Viasat’s Commercial Airline Support team, which helps deliver and maintain Viasat’s best-in-class “ViaSat In-Flight Connectivity” services to our Commercial Airline, Business Jet and mobility customers. The OEM Field Support & Integration Engineer plays a critical part in the service launch of new customers, supporting system activations at our OEM partners and over-the-air system checks for new installations of the ViaSat onboard In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) solution. They ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with ViaSat procedures and airline manuals, following EASA regulations. Additional key responsibilities include providing training, on-site, and remote support to OEM and customer maintenance representatives during installation, activation and maintenance of ViaSat IFC equipment, including software loads and updates. They are also responsible for coordinating Viasat part rework by 3rd-party OSS (On Site Support) contractor at both MCA (Major Component Assembly) and FAL (Final Assembly Line), ensuring parts, consumables, and instructions are available. They also provide support to the Program and Quality by investigating Viasat part movement, installation history and incidents within the Airbus facility. They will be responsible for updating the Viasat team on Airbus installation progress including information on aircraft production schedules and changes. They will be the first Airbus point of contact in case of installation incidents, and provide support to installation staff by raising awareness on Viasat parts, installation procedures, and care during handling.
The OEM Field Support & Integration Engineer works with collaborators and diverse audiences and must be able to communicate effectively.
Share knowledge, detail info, train colleagues, travel to different offices, sites, and facilities up to 50% of the time.
The day-to-day
The ideal candidate will have a background in commercial aircraft systems, specifically fixing electrical and avionics equipment and testing. Additionally any program management or administrative experience with aircraft manufactures will be viewed favorably. The critical nature of the work requires good judgment, initiative and specialized technical expertise to understand problems and develop recommended solutions. This role requires being at ease collaborating with a distributed team and working independently as a remote resource. Previous experience in a distributed team environment is a bonus. Experience with hardware and software elements involved in IP networking and satellite communications is preferred. Familiarity with UNIX/LINUX configuration, and ability to capture and interpret network traces is a plus.
Key responsibilities are:
- Support ViaSat’s customers and OEM partners in planning and driving installation, maintenance, fixing, and repair efforts.
- Act as main point of contact for daily production / installation status and ensure availability of parts and consumables
- Travel to customer & OEM locations on short notice to support fixing and repair operations.
- Provide training to OEM staff, maintenance vendors and airline personnel on installation and maintenance of the ViaSat IFC solution.
- Ensure all required and preventative maintenance is performed in accordance with company, airline, OEM and EASA regulations.
- Provide a timely remote response and resolution to any service inquiry related to installation and maintenance, improving communication and cooperation between FAL management and OSS contractors to ensure smooth processes in production / installation
- Ensure all install aids/work instructions and equipment required to install the ViaSat IFC service is available and up to date. Organize PO’s in cooperation with local teams, OSS contractor and Viasat teams
- Assess liability for incoming FAL (Final Assembly Lines) / MCA (Major Component Assembly) nonconformities (NC, TLB, QLB) and ensure follow-up on Airbus SAP system.
- Support Viasat Quality team in case of any Notification of Escape (NoE), Quality Surveillance Report (QSR), Safety Related Item (SARI management).
- Investigate Viasat part movement and installation history and incidents within MCA and FAL in case of non-conformities.
- Support the definition of operational processes with Program, Quality, Engineering and Supply Chain / Logistics (Operations & Aftermarket) teams.
- Planning and rescheduling of production processes and OSS activities.
- Ensure timely booking of new parts, hardware and consumables to avoid production disruptions.
- Supervise return of parts (RMA) from quarantine to Viasat and back to Airbus.
What you'll need
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience in Aircraft Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant field to production coordination in the aviation industry.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics including engineering items supporting the installation and repair of the ViaSat IFE system.
- Prior experience working in a field support capacity.
- Experience in IP networking, particularly in a Linux/Unix environment.
- Knowledge in planning, scheduling and production processes as well as in the use of modern project management tools.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule in a 24x7 environment as needed to support round-the-clock operations including holidays.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to be able to act independently and represent Viasat to our OEM partners.
- Confident handling of production planning software and MS Office suite.
- Fluency in German and/or French in combination with very good English for oral and written communication in an international environment.
- Ability to travel up to 50%, including internationally.

- Prior experience with RF Satellite or Wireless Communication systems
