Vast is looking for a Staff Electronics Piece Parts Engineer, reporting to the Director, RF Engineering, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deploy, and operate electronics piece parts control plans for Vast’s human rated space station programs
  • Tailor industry standards such as EEE-INST-002, NASA-STD-8739.10, etc for balancing high reliability, low cost, and development rate of Vast’s avionics products
  • Manage a Vast parts database for screening, qualification, and monitor against GIDEP, Silicon Expert, etc
  • Advise engineers on part selection and design for reliability such as FMECA/PFMECA and reliability design of experiments.
  • Support component failure analysis through processes such as NDA, DPA, x-ray, CT scan, SEM, cross sectioning, etc
  • Foster a strong interdisciplinary relationship with other teams that rely on the electronics parts team to be successful across engineering, quality, and supply chain
  • Exemplify a culture of excellence, extreme ownership, and safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering, physics, materials science, or related discipline
  • 7+ years of experience working in an engineering role
  • Deep understanding of electronics piece parts for space applications

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • MS or PhD in electrical engineering, physics, materials science, or related discipline
  • Prior experience in an electronics, semiconductors, or electrical systems design role
  • Experience with component selection, derating, and reliability analysis for space applications, including familiarity with standards such as EEE-INST-002, MIL-HDBK-217F, and ECSS/ESA standards
  • Experience with software development in Matlab, Python, etc
  • Knowledge of radiation effects on components (TID, SEE) and experience developing or advising on radiation test and mitigation plans
  • Experience with ESD / electronics survivability
  • Understanding of configuration management, requirements traceability, and quality assurance practices for electronics components
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to teach people of a multitude of education and industry backgrounds about Survivability.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
Salary Range: California
$160,000$200,000 USD
