UNIVITY is looking for a Senior Ground Segment Engineer to join the team in our Toulouse office.
As Senior Ground Segment Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the development, integration and validation of the ground segment of our Early Test mission, In-Orbit Demonstration mission and the subsequent multi-orbit constellation. This ground segment includes all the hardware and software which allows us to commission, operate and decommission our satellites, perform mission planning and orchestration, route traffic from the Users to the internet over the satellite to support the global distribution of our connectivity service.
Your key responsibilities
- Defining the overall architecture of our Ground Segment which includes, satellite gateways, Wide Area Network, IT and security infrastructure, System Control Centre, including orchestration software, and 5G Core network.
- Establishing hardware and software specifications for the different subsystems of the Ground Segment and their related interconnections.
- Defining and managing the Integration and Test of the Ground Segment.
- Working with the procurement managers to identify partners and suppliers for the provision of the Ground Segment subsystems, and for the Integration and Test of the Ground Segment.
- Working with business development managers to define solutions for integration with terrestrial mobile operators.
- Ensuring that the Ground Segment meets the requirements of the programme in terms of schedule, quality and cost, in coordination with the program managers, procurement managers, end-to-end systems engineers and other sub-systems leads.
- Managing junior members of the team; this could include technical coaching and /or line management.
- Preparing technical analyses, simulations, reports, trade-offs and recommendations as necessary to drive the development of the satellites and the Mission engineering activities.
- Providing technical inputs for project reviews, proposals, funding applications and marketing materials.
- Supporting the LEOP and operations team after satellite launch.
Profile required
Skills and experience
Minimum Masters level qualification in Engineering, IT or a related discipline.
Minimum 10 years industry experience in the development of ground network architecture for large SATCOM system, including solid knowledge of ground network design, devices, appliances, architecture, protocols, and topology.
Experience in broadband/backhauling LEO constellation would be an advantage.
Software skills including Java, Python, C++, SQL.
Experience in leading a software development team following a Devops processes in Agile methodology.
Familiarity with configuration management toolsets (such as Gitlab/ GitHub) and underlying processes.
Familiarity with VM Ware / Cloud technology, including docker network, container, virtual machine, kubernetes, and Infra as a code.
Familiarity with IT infrastructure security concepts such as VPN, Firewall, SIEM, antivirus, and network probes.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Pragmatic, with strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
