Turion Space is seeking an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join our platform engineering team. This role requires advanced expertise in CI/CD practices, cloud services (particularly AWS), containerization, and infrastructure as code. While our current infrastructure primarily uses AWS, we're building our platform and products with infrastructure agnosticism in mind - whether cloud or on-premises. The ideal candidate will contribute to the design and implementation of our internal developer platforms while assisting with our current infrastructure needs.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Development:
  • Design and drive implementation of internal developer platforms and self-service tools
  • Develop abstraction layers that enable infrastructure portability across different deployment targets
  • Build and optimize reusable infrastructure components and templates, ensuring cross-environment portability
  • Design and implement platform APIs and tools that abstract away infrastructure-specific details
  • Establish cloud-agnostic observability and monitoring solutions
  • Define and implement standardized deployment patterns and workflows
  • Architect and enhance our container orchestration platform improvements
  • Develop comprehensive platform documentation and training materials
  • Guide development teams in their transition to self-service capabilities

Immediate Impact:
  • Help maintain and optimize existing AWS infrastructure and deployment pipelines
  • Support immediate production issues and deployments
  • Assist in implementing security best practices across our platform and infrastructure
  • Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity plans
  • Implement and manage advanced secrets management solutions
  • Participate in on-call rotations and assist with incident response efforts
  • Support teams with their current CI/CD and deployment needs
  • Help teams design cloud-agnostic solutions while working within current AWS constraints

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Personnel Security Clearance (PCL)
  • 8+ years of experience in software development, DevOps, or platform engineering
  • Proven track record of implementing large-scale platforms and infrastructure
  • Expert-level knowledge of CI/CD concepts and extensive experience with industry-standard tools
  • Deep expertise with AWS services and architectures, particularly around containerization and orchestration
  • Advanced proficiency in infrastructure as code tools, especially AWS CDK
  • Expert-level knowledge in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Go, TypeScript)
  • Extensive experience with containerization technologies and orchestration platforms
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking, security, and infrastructure concepts
  • Experience with both cloud and on-premises infrastructure management
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive technical initiatives
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Physical ability to occasionally work with server equipment (lifting up to 50 pounds, rack mounting)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience building and maintaining large-scale internal developer platforms
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional)
  • Experience in platform engineering roles within aerospace or high-tech industries
  • Advanced skills in Python and Go, with a history of significant contributions to open-source projects
  • Experience implementing GitOps practices in large-scale environments
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise Linux distributions and their management at scale
  • Experience designing and implementing advanced monitoring and observability solutions
  • Track record of successful problem-solving in high-pressure, mission-critical environments
  • Knowledge of multiple cloud providers and their architectural differences
  • Experience with hybrid infrastructure solutions and implementation
  • Familiarity with compliance standards relevant to the aerospace industry (e.g., NIST, ITAR)
  • Experience with financial aspects of platform and infrastructure management
  • Knowledge of machine learning operations (MLOps) and experience integrating ML workflows into CI/CD pipelines
