P3 Software Engineer - Job Description

Location: Chennai, India

Role Summary

Trimble is rebuilding engineering around AI. We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer (P3) who is more than a traditional developer. In this role, you will lead by example, redesigning software development around agentic AI workflows, automation, and parallelized execution.

The ideal candidate is a force multiplier who treats AI as a primary collaborator. You are someone who uses their deep engineering fundamentals to stay hands-on in the code while simultaneously having interest in re-engineering the systems that ship it. You will be instrumental in the role by embedding AI into daily workflows to increase throughput and eliminate manual bottlenecks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Involve in detailed design and implementation of sophisticated software components using OOAD principles and Microservices architecture. Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, and follow SOLID principles.

  • Follow an AI-native development workflow (using tools like Cursor) to be used by the team to reduce cycle time and increase feature throughput.

  • Build automation playbooks for test generation and review processes to help peer functions like QA eliminate bottlenecks.

  • Leverage AI to minimize learning curves and build on any language or framework as per the team’s demand, maintaining high-quality output across the stack.

  • Open to try out and build Proof of Concepts (POCs) for internal AI agents to handle repetitive tasks, troubleshooting, and code scaffolding.

  • Act as a "Player-Coach" to help developers and QA engineers adopt AI practices, clearing technical hurdles and navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of professional software engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale cloud services.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Expert-level knowledge in at least one major programming language (C#, Java, or Python).

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in using LLM copilots to accelerate development and a willingness to build in any language required by the roadmap.

  • Experience with distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and Microservices architecture.

  • Practical experience with at least one NoSQL database (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB).

  • Hands-on experience with any one of major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or google)
