What You Will Do
Trimble Military and Advanced Systems is the market leader in high-performance embedded GPS navigation receivers for aviation applications. The Trimble receivers are deeply embedded in inertial navigation subsystems. As an Applications Engineer, you will manage the specification, development, verification, integration, and deployment life cycle for TMAS embedded GPS systems, comprising digital, RF, power, and mechanical subsystems of circuit card-level receivers. You will support products from initial development to end of life, including conceptualization, proposals, design validation, new product introduction, engineering changes, manufacturing problem resolution, and quality issues.

This will involve:

  • Manage the specification, development, verification, and deployment life cycle for TMAS embedded GPS systems

  • Support customer integration and use of the receivers, generate supporting data for proposals, and align the product specification with the customer and program requirements

  • Analyze system behavior under operating scenarios to resolve customer and field issues

  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure the accuracy of the product specification, to manage the allocation of hardware, software, performance, and environmental requirements, and to ensure the verification strategy and the engineering deliverables meet the requirements

  • Lead the design, development, integration, and release of test stations and techniques. Define, outline, and perform the training and sustaining activity required to successfully manage test verification programs

  • Develop and publish product qualification test reports

  • Working with the certification, CM, and QA leads, ensure that the deliverable system meets the design assurance, certification, and quality standards.

What skills & experience you should bring
As well as having strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and being a collaborative, team-oriented contributor with demonstrated ability to think outside the box, along with a proactive, self-starter attitude, you should be able to bring the following:

  • BS or MS in EE from an accredited institution, and experience in applications engineering of complex embedded software on multiple circuit-card assemblies

    • System spec and interface control spec lifecycle management

    • Requirements management, decomposition, flow down, and tracing from customer requirements, to sub-system requirements, to detailed requirements, to verification

    • Requirements-based verification and qualification

    • Project and schedule management

    • System-level perspective of an embedded circuit board product, with command of electronic hardware, RF, software, and interface design and development processes

  • Demonstrated excellence in customer interactions to establish confidence and rapport, clarify and align requirements expectations, prepare and present design review material, and support customer integrations

  • Demonstrated CM and QA discipline managing requirements-based development processes leading to product certification. Field Application Engineer (FAE) focused on DO-178 with skills to combine deep technical knowledge of the DO-178C standard with strong communication and support abilities to guide customers through the certification process

  • Track record demonstrating rigorous documentation, record keeping, formal data management, collaboration, and communication skills
