Job Location: Christchurch, NZ

Our Department: Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT)

Would you be excited about a role where you can craft electronic solutions being used to transform the earth-moving industry globally?

What You Will Do

As an Electronics Engineer in the Hardware Solutions Team in CTCT, you will make an essential contribution to hardware product design and manufacture. You will work within a multi-disciplined team responsible for on-machine construction machine guidance system components.

You’ll craft the electrical & electronic aspects of systems and devices through the complete design cycle, from requirements definition, design & test, to introducing and sustaining the product in manufacture. You will sometimes design devices from the ground up and sometimes oversee design undertaken by partner organisations, providing peer review and testing. Your role focuses on schematic & board layout design as well as supporting prototype build & test for devices incorporating technologies such as GNSS receivers, IMUs, Bluetooth, WLAN, and other radio technologies.

This will involve:

  • The conversion of market requirements into engineering specifications and technical solutions

  • Contributing to the development of schedules

  • Best practice oversight and implementation of detailed electrical design

  • Working with ODMs to ensure timely delivery of quality electronic component designs

  • Taking responsibility for electrical design quality according to international design and manufacturing best practices, including Design for Manufacture & Test (DFM, DFT)

  • Supporting related project activities such as firmware/hardware integration bring-up, DFMEA, field testing, compliance, reliability, and HALT testing

  • Supporting the successful transition of completed products to manufacturing through activities such as new product introduction (NPI) product builds, authoring Engineering Changes, and contributing to writing on-line test procedures and fixture design as required.

What skills & experience you should bring

As well as possessing excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality, you should bring the following:

  • BSEE, B.Eng (Electrical & Electronics), B.Eng (Mechatronics), or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated industry experience in a relevant engineering design position

  • You will be versed in the hands-on theory of design, by way of schematic capture, component selection, circuit simulation, PCB layout, and design verification testing and reporting

  • Knowledge of the theories, practices, and procedures relating to electronic product design, test, and equipment/tools applied in the real world

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Nice to haves:

    • Proficiency with eCAD systems, experience in Cadence OrCAD and Allegro

    • Off-highway or automotive component hardware experience.
