Are you a Software Engineer/Developer that wants to be at the heart of analyzing, designing, and programming cutting-edge software enhancements and new products in a collaborative environment?

What You Will Do

This role is pivotal in not just maintaining but elevating the efficiency and functionality of our legacy systems. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a collaborative mindset to drive continuous improvement in our development processes.

Code Maintenance and Enhancement:

  • Analyze, maintain, and upgrade legacy Java, SQL and Delphi codebases.

  • Identify opportunities for code optimization and refactoring to enhance system performance and maintainability.

Leadership in Code Review and Design:

  • Lead and conduct comprehensive code reviews, providing constructive feedback to team members.

  • Collaborate with development teams to brainstorm and implement effective design strategies for system improvements.

  • Coordinate with QA in the development of integration test plans, test conditions, and expected test results

  • Take programming projects through to completion according to project standards and user satisfaction; perform task breakdown, task allocation among available resources, provide guidance to resources and ensure the whole team succeeds

Legacy System Understanding and Documentation:

  • Gain a deep understanding of existing legacy systems and document functionalities, limitations, and dependencies.

  • Create comprehensive documentation for legacy codebases, aiding in knowledge transfer and future development efforts.

  • Provide support individually for production applications including on-call after hours support on a rotational basis; ensure team is providing outstanding support and continuously develops and maintain support documentation

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to align development goals with business objectives.

  • Effectively communicate technical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Work with end users to understand requests or discuss alternatives

Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues within the legacy systems, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

  • Assist in prioritizing projects and competing user requests; work individually and as a team with business unit leaders to define and document requirements and obtain formal sign-offs; provide analytical and problem solving expertise to resolve business and systems issues; proactively identify and provide recommendations on solutions for gaps in business processes and systems

What Skills & Experience You Should Bring

  • Work with other developers and product engineers in solving new and existing technical issues

  • Understand requirements, implement designs, write specifications and documentation as needed for projects and issues

  • Identify/Discover the programming techniques used in existing applications (reverse-engineer)

  • Measure and verify that new and old code has acceptable performance and scalability

  • Maintain complete ownership from start to completion for projects assigned

  • Consistently meet project deadlines

  • Ability to understand and start projects quickly

  • Strong experience in database design including stored procedures, triggers and functions.

  • Strong experience in all aspects of the software lifecycle including design and testing

  • Extensive experience (7+ years) working with legacy systems, specifically Java, SQL and Delphi.

  • Proficiency in debugging, optimizing, and refactoring legacy codebases.

  • Experience in migrating legacy systems to modern architectures or platforms.

  • Familiarity with legacy system modernization strategies and tools.
