Position Overview

Trimble is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable International Tax Manager to oversee and manage the realignment of European indirect tax compliance. The primary objective of this role is to streamline and optimize the tax compliance processes within the European region by insourcing the complete indirect tax compliance function. The International Tax Manager will ensure efficient and accurate preparation and filing of VAT returns, support VAT processes in various projects, implement sustainable VAT reporting tools, and coordinate VAT filings outside of Europe. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with tax regulations, driving process improvements, and supporting the European finance team.

Essential Responsibilities

Oversee and manage the realignment of European indirect tax compliance:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the existing indirect tax compliance processes within the EMEA region.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and optimize the tax compliance processes.

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for insourcing the complete VAT indirect tax compliance function.

  • Collaborate with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate filing of VAT returns outside of Europe.

  • Maintain documentation and records required for VAT filings in non-European jurisdictions.

  • Monitor and manage VAT compliance obligations in non-European countries.

Ensure efficient and accurate preparation and filing of VAT returns:

  • Coordinate and oversee the timely preparation and submission of VAT returns for the European operations.

  • Review VAT returns to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant tax regulations.

  • Stay updated with changes in VAT laws and regulations and implement necessary adjustments to the VAT return process.

Proactively drive VAT processes within various projects:

  • Support and test VAT processes in the digital transformation process and related connectivity to the OneSource indirect tax engine.

  • Leverage data collection and migration tools (e.g., Alteryx) to gather and transform data from various sources.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide guidance on VAT implications for new projects and initiatives.

  • Analyze and interpret the impact of proposed changes in business operations on VAT compliance and reporting.

  • Advise on the implementation of VAT strategies to optimize tax positions and minimize risk.

Implement sustainable VAT reporting tools:

  • Evaluate and select appropriate VAT reporting tools or software solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Oversee the implementation and integration of VAT reporting tools within the European tax compliance function.

  • Provide training and support to the finance team on the proper use and maintenance of the VAT reporting tools.

Support the European finance team:

  • Provide guidance and support to the finance team regarding VAT compliance matters.

  • Collaborate with the finance team to address tax-related inquiries and provide clarification on tax issues.

  • Assist in the resolution of any tax-related disputes or audits within the EMEA region.

  • Analyze net sales per country, particularly in electronic services, to determine the need for country-specific VAT registration.

  • Assist in developing requirements and testing for emerging e-invoicing mandates.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.

  • At least 6 years of progressive experience in indirect tax, preferably within a multinational company or Big 4 with compliance experience.

  • Strong understanding of European VAT regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Experience with VAT reporting tools, such as OneSource indirect tax engine and compliance software.

  • Proficiency in using data collection and migration tools (e.g., Alteryx) for data integration and analysis and ability to learn new technology tools.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex VAT data and support questions related to global VAT.

  • Understands emerging e-invoicing requirements and rules as set by various tax authorities.

  • Familiarity with direct taxes and their interplay with indirect taxes.

  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines, and lead ad-hoc projects with multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prior experience in managing change within indirect tax processes is desirable.
