As a Staff Applied Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in our multidisciplinary team, leading the development and deployment of advanced machine learning and computer vision systems.
What you'll do
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and data scientists, guiding the design, implementation, and deployment of advanced AI systems.
  • Architect and optimize machine learning (ML) and computer vision (CV) models for scalability, performance, and efficiency in autonomous driving applications.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of ML and CV projects, from conception to deployment, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Develop and refine systems for processing multisensory data, including LiDAR, RADAR, and camera inputs, with a focus on real-time mapping and geospatial processing.
  • Optimize ML models for deployment on low-power embedded devices, balancing technical complexity with business considerations.
  • Provide hands-on contributions while offering technical leadership, simplifying intricate technical challenges, and driving consensus in technical discussions.
  • Develop automated approaches to harness data streams, improving the quality and efficiency of mapping processes.
  • Initiate and drive new projects, using iterative development methodologies to enhance tools and technologies.
  • Mentor junior scientists and engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
What you'll need
  • PhD or MS in computer vision, machine learning, or a related field, with multiple research publications or equivalent industry experience in autonomous driving and mapping challenges.
  • Minimum 8 years of industry experience in applied science, focusing on ML and CV.
  • Proven track record in leading ML research projects from inception to product integration.
  • Strong proficiency in machine learning approaches, deep learning methodologies, and programming languages such as Python and C++.
  • Experience with scalable backend systems and tools like Spark, Databricks, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and their application in real-world problem-solving.
  • Hands-on experience with sensor data processing, sensor fusion, and map-related technologies like SLAM and HD mapping.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including team management, mentoring, and project leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Familiarity with tools and platforms such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, Pandas, Scikit-learn, SciPy, NumPy, and OpenCV.

Meet your team
We are the ADAS & ADS Product Unit, leading the production of TomTom’s HD maps and ADAS technology.
In a diverse team of applied scientists, engineers, data scientists, and more, equipped with a broad array of expertise, you’ll collaborate on groundbreaking location-based technologies and applications.
More specifically, you’ll be at the forefront of the creation of advanced HD maps. You’ll also help update these in real-time, ensuring our maps are pushing the world forward instantly. These maps will then go on to empower the largest car manufacturers, transportation giants, and major tech companies around the world.
