Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We are seeking a talented AIT MGSE Engineer to help us in our mission by designing and delivering all the MGSEs needed for our Nyx Earth prototype. You will be successful in this role if you can help us:

• Elaborate on the concept of all the MGSEs (mechanical + electro-mechanical)

• Make calculations/stress analysis demonstrating good safety margins

• Deliver the CAD (3D models of all the GSE)

• Deliver the detailed design (2D) (when needed, if CAD is not sufficient) of all the parts to be manufactured

This position reports to the AIT MGSE Principal.

Key responsibilities:

• Design with CAD all the MGSEs that we will need for assembly

• Confirm with mechanical analysis/hand calculations that the design is compatible with the external loads

• Support also the design of automation parts (A few electrical motors with variators and control to move some parts)

• Discuss with suppliers the MGSE designs for ease of manufacturing and the most adequate processes

• Follow up on the manufacturing with the suppliers (with the support of our supply chain in Germany), and answer the technical questions/concerns they might face.

• You will support the AIT Technicians in installing the MGSE, if needed.

What we would love to see from you:

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering area

• Over 2 years of experience in CAD design and software (Catia, Siemens NX or similar)

• Aware of all the different manufacturing processes (E.g. Machining, welding, etc.)

• A level of hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and simple machining tools (E.g.: Drilling machine)

• Fluency in English, with strong communication skills

• Creative with innovative ideas and technical problem-solving/troubleshooting skills

Desirable:

• Previous experience in space AIT

• Experience with the design of test setups, jigs, fixtures and planning/execution of in-house mechanical tests

• Experience in the design of welded structures, frames, etc.

• Experience with tooling or MGSE design

• Knowledge of German
