Internship - Digital Design
The Exploration Company
Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We want you as a talented Intern for Digital Electronics Design to help us in our mission by designing and testing the building blocks for our Nyx Avionics system.
Key Responsibilities
In your capacity as an Intern in the Electronics Design Team, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
Writing and verifying embedded software for SoC/Microcontrollers according space quality standards
Definition and documentation of test requirements, creation of test procedures, and execution of tests for verification of functionality and performance of electronic modules and FPGA function blocks
Design and validation of digital interface circuitry (CAN, RS422 UART, I2C, SPI, Spacewire, etc.)
Design of test setups for electronic modules and FPGA function blocks
Write first test software for the system to validate interfaces and hardware functions
Validating the design and ensuring failure tolerance and radiation tolerance of the functions
Provide inputs to team in charge designing digital circuit boards with FPGAs and Microcontrollers for space environment
Close working together with Systems Engineers to define capabilities and requirements of the digital functionality
What we would love to see from you
In the role of Digital Electronics Design Intern, you will have the following:
Enrolled in a masters/bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Embedded Systems, Electronics Engineering, or similar
Solid C Programming knowledge on embedded systems
Solid VHDL / Verilog knowledge
Understanding of Microcontroller / FPGA / SoC design
Hands-on mentality working in the laboratory (Soldering, prototype board debugging, etc.)
Basic understanding of space avionics
(Plus) Knowledge of Microchip Libero or Xilinx Vivado
(Plus) Knowledge of radiation effects and radiation related failure mechanisms in electronic circuits (Single Event Upsets, Single Event Transients, etc.)
(Plus) Knowledge of environmental qualification and relevant standards ECSS / NASA-HBK / NASA -CBCS / MIL-STD for programming, board design, Interfaces, etc.
Fluent in English (working language is English).
