Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

The heart of a spacecraft lies in its propulsion system, and that's why we, at The Exploration Company, are dedicated to developing our own cutting-edge propulsion systems ensuring the highest level of efficiency and reliability in our space endeavors.

We are seeking a talented and experienced Turbomachinery Development Engineer to join our innovative team. In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design, development, and testing of the electric pumps of a cryogenic rocket engine.

Key responsibilities:

  • Drive the pump mechanical design from architecture to component design

  • Ensuring that detailed mechanical analysis is performed on the pump components and assembly, reviewed and meets the required standards for life and reliability targets

  • Developing validation/verification tools dedicated to the mechanical design and development of pumps

  • Supporting pump components and assembly test campaigns (configuration definition, test execution and results reviews)

  • Supporting the resolution of issues encountered with the pump during development and qualification

  • To support design iterations to pump assemblies and/or components including manufacturing improvements to reduce the cost and lead time of components

What we'd like to see from you:

  • Master’s degree or higher in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field

  • Strong knowledge of CAD design, drafting (including GD&T), mechanisms, structural analysis and thermodynamics

  • Proficiency in our software tools (Siemens NX, Ansys, Python)

  • Proven experience on an entire product life cycle, from design to commissioning

  • Experience with turbomachinery and cryogenic liquid propellant propulsion systems is a plus

  • Understanding of space-relevant standards (like ECSS, MIL-STD, NASA-HBK) and regulations.

  • Fluency in English
