Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Reliability Analysis Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:

  • Perform Reliability Analysis, including:

    • Conduct reliability analyses for different mission scenarios, providing detailed reliability figures.

    • Define reliability targets and allocations to the different sub-systems and functional chains.

    • Justify design choices for failure tolerance and intrinsic reliabilities in line with standards such as ECSSQ-Q-ST-30 and ECSS-Q-HB-30-08A.

    • Define and document assumptions and reference frames to support reliability predictions.

    • Develop and update reliability models considering time, environmental conditions, and failure events.

    • Integrate various failure modes, including random failures, systematic failures, wear-out failures, and external failures into the reliability predictions.

  • Perform Probabilistic Risk Assessment, including:

    • Perform quantitative risk assessments using failure rates from reliability analysis.

    • Compute probabilities of failures at lower levels and assess feared event occurrences based on fault trees.

    • Provide outputs to support closure of requirements and ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Perform Availability Analysis, including:

    • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of the spacecraft's ability to perform required functions over specified periods.

    • Assess system readiness for mission objectives, ISS operations, and handling unexpected failures or Single Event Phenomena (SEP).

    • Combine different Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs) and fault trees to simulate system performance under various scenarios and operational conditions.

    • Evaluate key metrics such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) (on ground), and Mean Time To Reconfigure (in flight).

    • Assess availability for critical mission phases, including ground system end-to-end availability, launch availability, and return-to-Earth availability.

What we would love to see from you

In the role of Reliability Analysis Engineer ideally, you will have the following:

  • Advanced degree (Master of Science or PhD) in system engineering, aerospace engineering, or another related field.

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in reliability and availability engineering, preferably in the aerospace industry.

  • In-depth understanding of reliability and availability engineering principles and practices, familiarity with FIDES methodology is a plus.

  • Proven experience with reliability prediction models, probabilistic risk assessment, and / or availability analysis.

  • Good knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems, including propulsion, avionics, GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control), and power systems, is a plus

  • Comfortable using python and Github.

  • Fluent in English. French and German is an asset

Skills and Behaviours

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizing and prioritization of tasks

  • Positive and flexible attitude to get the job done

  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the business

  • Demonstrates behaviours consistent with The Exploration Company’s core values of Mission, Vision, Integrity, Excellence and Teamwork
