Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

Key responsibilities:

In your capacity as a Thruster Thermo-Mechanical Engineer your role will be continuously evolving, but as a core member of the Propulsion team, your duties will include:

  • Lead the thruster thermal and mechanical design and justification from architecture to component design

  • Perform and/or review detailed structural, and thermal analyses on thruster components and assembly, and confirm that they meet the required standards for life, and reliability targets

  • Generate accurate, precise, and thoughtfully dimensioned CAD models and drawings for the thruster, and ensure that these drawings can be efficiently manufactured with the available processes

  • Work with manufacturing engineers to ensure thruster components are manufactured correctly and efficiently

  • Support test teams for development, qualification, and production tests

  • Perform troubleshooting to resolve hardware and test operations issues

What we would love to see from you:

  • BS or MS or Ph.D. in a related field and a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, and testing outside of college.

  • Full engineering lifecycle experience (design trade, CAD design, prototyping, manufacturing, testing, qualification, production)

  • Professional experience with CAD (Siemens NX preferred) and FEM tools (ANSYS preferred)

  • Experience with rocket chamber design and analysis (e.g. structural analysis via hand calcs and FEA, fatigue/fracture mechanics) preferred

  • Experience in industries with rigorous requirements (such as aviation, space, or nuclear) is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.
