CNC Programmer and Machinist (5 axis)
As part of our mission, we’re looking to expand our in-house manufacturing capabilities, and that starts with you. In this role, you will be responsible for operating Starpath's shop, handling manufacturing requests spanning a variety of materials, geometries, and teams. You will be expected to turn parts around quickly, make quick judgements about manufacturability, and deliver clear/concise DFM feedback to accelerate development timelines.
Responsibilities
Work from 3D CAD models, drawings, engineering sketches, and communication with design engineers to produce a variety of parts from many types of materials such as aluminum, stainless steels, Inconel, titanium, composites, etc.
Provide high quality DFM feedback to design engineers
Set up and operate CNC and manual mills and lathes
Support the assembly of precision components and mechanisms (ie. motors, bearings, linkages, ball screws)
Utilize a range of workshop tools to build and modify components as needed, while maintaining high build quality standards
Mentor and train engineers on shop best practices
Maintain a safe and clean work environment
Develop and maintain supportive, professional relationships with design engineers
Required Qualifications
5+ years experience programming and operating CNC machines, including 5-axis mills such as HAAS UMC750
High degree of proficiency with CAM software (Fusion 360, HSM Works, NX Cam)
Ability to machine parts to specification working from CAD files, mechanical drawings and sketches
Detailed working knowledge of common machine shop tools and equipment
Ability to manage all shop needs such as organization and machine maintenance
Understanding of metrology, GD&T and the ability to use conventional machinist's measuring instruments
Strong organization skills with meticulous attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Capable of performing optimally amidst pressure, effectively juggling various demands and stringent timelines
A desire to make Humans a multi-planet species
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with outfitting a brand new machine shop for aerospace applications
5+ years of experience as a Shop Manager
Experienced in dynamic startup environments
Ability to work night shifts in support of rapid prototyping needs
Ability to use 3D CAD to rapidly modify part designs to optimize for manufacturing
Position Details
Location: Los Angeles - Hawthorne
Salary base rate is $80-$120k/yr, plus equity package; compensation scales with candidate experience
