As a Supply Chain Quality Engineer, you will play a critical role at the intersection of quality assurance and supply chain excellence, ensuring that the parts and components we source meets our rigorous standards for reliability and compliance.
You will cultivate strong supplier partnerships, establish and lead qualification and audit activities, and collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, and manufacturing teams to deliver satellite systems with uncompromising performance and dependability.

What you’ll do as a Senior Supply Chain Quality Engineer:
- Lead supplier quality initiatives for flight hardware, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards (NASA, ECSS, IPC etc.), and customer requirements.
- Define and execute regular supplier qualification, audit, and performance management programs; travel to supplier facilities for assessment will be expected.
- Support component and subsystem qualification, including First Article Inspection (FAI), environmental testing, and COTS-to-space processes.
- Drive nonconformance management and MRB activities, guide corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and partner with suppliers on quality improvement initiatives.
- Establish and track supplier KPIs, providing transparency and accountability across the supply chain.
- Partner with engineering on design-for-quality and manufacturability feedback.
- Collaborate with supply chain teams on risk management, obsolescence strategies, and alternate sourcing.
- Represent Quality in supplier reviews, customer audits, and internal readiness reviews.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement in quality, processes, and tools.
Key skills:
- HNC, or further education, in a relevant Engineering discipline.
- 7+ years working in a Quality Engineering role in aerospace, defence, or high-reliability hardware industry.
- Experience operating to AS9100, ISO 9001, and aerospace supplier quality practices.
- Experience with quality management processes such as supplier audits, FAI, PPAP, APQP, and root cause analysis etc.
- Familiarity with COTS parts qualification and space-grade components (electronics, PCBs, connectors, structures, etc.).
- Familiarity of electronic assemblies, including inspection, validation, and supplier quality assurance in aerospace applications.
- Managing interactions with suppliers and customers to ensure swift and comprehensive closure of any quality issues identified.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills.
Preferred skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering discipline.
- Familiarity with scaling supply chains to meet the needs of a rapidly growing commercial entity.
- Working understanding of Mechanical & EEE Technical Drawings.
- Knowledge of Printed Circuit Board manufacture and population, including IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
- Awareness of Space industry quality standards (NASA, ECSS, IPC etc.).
- Experience of an ISO 9001:2015 (or equivalent) audit initiative.
- Experience of document control.
Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.
Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses—this is not something candidates need to have before applying.
