SUPERVISOR, TOOLING MAINTENANCE

The Tooling Maintenance Operations team is responsible for overseeing corrective repairs, preventative maintenance, and execution of design upgrades on critical aerospace tooling assets at SpaceX. They execute complex system troubleshooting, multi-site preparation and handling of large-scale flight hardware interfacing systems, and assist production teams in maintaining thousands of critical structural tools across F9, Dragon, Starship, and Raptor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that critical aerospace tooling and flight hardware interfacing systems are functioning, well-maintained, and operating effectively for efficient production operations
  • Coordinating support for the execution of corrective and preventative maintenance plans, coordinating with production teams and end users to ensure work is completed prior to planned due dates for service
  • Ensuring operational feedback is provided to maintenance and tooling design engineering to help drive process changes and cut down on non-value-added maintenance/repair work
  • Offer opportunities across teams for technical cross-training, ensure technicians are provided training opportunities when necessary and are accountable for renewing certifications when needed
  • Detail and promote strict safety protocols for hazardous equipment work, LOTO procedure, lifting operations, and oversized tool movement
  • Coordinate with external tooling contractors, production groups, and part suppliers to ensure maintenance and operational expectations are met daily
  • Actively work to reduce dependency on external rebuild/repair/maintenance support when justified
  • Drive shop improvement projects to help promote effective operations, ensure fast-acting response to common system repairs, and organize line-side and consumable spares hardware as needed
  • Ensure team members understand how to properly pull spares from inventory, consume goods, and can navigate online tools as configured to tooling assembly GD&T, laser tracking, as well as accessing and understanding required tooling specifications
  • Motivate team members to explore outside their comfort zone, be passionate about making existing systems better, and be excited to provide valuable technical feedback to engineering
  • Provide valued technical insight to production teams, help with bettering processes, preventative planning, and auditory deadlines as needed
  • Be very involved in recruitment process for new job openings within the team. Understand where team’s operational gaps are and recruit accordingly

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing/testing/tooling environment
  • 1+ years of experience leading a team or project

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Highly experienced with navigating GD&T software to pull measurements, configure design layers, and specify/capture part tolerances
  • Analytic thinker that gets to the root of problems and comes up with permanent solutions to remedy issues, is comfortable balancing a heavy workload
  • Detail oriented, organized, and able to demonstrate a high sense of urgency
  • Ability to rapidly change priorities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
  • Experienced with a variety of measurement tools including laser tracking systems, including but not limited to Faro and Leica
  • Experience with large scale electro-mechanical interfacing tool systems, electrical and drive system experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills
  • Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook), Smartsheet, Jira, and other organizational software

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at elevated heights occasionally (scissor lifts and articulated boom lifts)
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 30 lbs unassisted
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments as needed
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Willing to travel for short trips as needed, up to 10% travel

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Supervisor: $105,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
