STUDENT COUNSELOR

This unique role will be a part of SpaceX’s Starbase education team. The education team’s primary goal is supporting the education of all children who are part of the SpaceX community. As such, this job comes with many responsibilities, primarily including counseling all students and their families, including those with special needs. This individual will work closely with the Education Director throughout the year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide social emotional, mental health, and college/career counseling services to students
  • Work with students in 1:1 or in small group settings
  • Provide guidance to families on how to support their students, which may include discussing student progress, discussing students’ IEPs, providing strategies to parents on how they can support their children at home, discussing achievement scores with families, hosting events with parents, handling ad-hoc requests from families, and facilitating Starbase-wide education communication
  • Consult teachers and Head of School on programs and practices that support all students beyond academics
  • Advise teachers and Head of School on programs and practices that support the mental wellbeing of students
  • Setting a long-term vision for counseling programming
  • Build college counseling programs
  • Interface with parents/guardians
  • Occasionally filling in for regular program teachers when they are absent
  • Support testing administration for students ages Pre-K through 12th grade
  • Help and lead other ad-hoc programs/operations that are essential to the success of Starbase education

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • State of Texas Licensed Professional Counselor or Texas School Counselor Certification

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in education or psychology
  • Has experience working with parents of students
  • Has experience with college counseling
  • Has experience planning and implementing education programs
  • A passion for disruptive education opportunities
  • Excellent skills in prioritization, time management and interpersonal communication skills
  • Has experience in stakeholder management and presenting to senior leaders
  • Deeply curious and ready to work hard in high pressure, fast-paced environments
  • Has a commitment to education for all children and believes in their ability to learn and grow

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends, flexibility is required

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Student Counselor: $65,000 - $95,000/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
