Role Summary

The MEMS Design Engineer will form a key part of the MEMS development team, focussing on the design, simulation and characterisation of RF MEMS devices. Reporting to the MEMS Device Engineering Manager and working within a growing team, the MEMS Design Engineer will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the MEMS life-cycle, from early-stage concept development to final design review, device characterisation, model validation and failure analysis.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities include:

• To develop, run and maintain an electromechanical FEM model library of RF MEMS devices.

• Working closely with the RF design team to optimise MEMS device design to achieve high RF performance at the chip level, whilst maintaining a robust and reliable MEMS device.

• To work with MEMS process and packaging engineers to ensure manufacturability and yield requirements are met.

• Performing critical review of MEMS design, process and layout changes.

Experience and requirements

Required Skills

• Strong degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent. A master’s, PhD or equivalent experience in MEMS or a related discipline would be advantageous.

• Experience in electromechanical design, simulation and layout of MEMS devices.

• Demonstrated proficiency in Comsol Multiphysics or similar coupled-physics FEA software.

• Experience in characterisation and test of MEMS devices.

• Understanding of MEMS reliability testing and failure analysis techniques.

• Knowledge of wafer-level MEMS fabrication and process development.

• Detail-oriented with an ability to perform structured review or MEMS designs and layouts.

• Self-starter, able to work on own initiative.

• A strategic thinker with broad problem-solving skills.

• Positive attitude with a willingness to get involved.

• Strong communication skills, able to engage with stakeholders on all levels.

Desirable

• Experience using JMP or similar statistical software for analysis of high-volume production data.

• Familiarity with Python and/or Octave/Matlab for data processing and analysis.
