Position Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented Inspection Engineer (Mechanical) to join our Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC) team for launch vehicle manufacturing. The candidate will support dimensional inspection, validation, documentation, and clearance activities for flight hardware, ensuring compliance with aerospace quality standards. The role requires frequent travel in and around Hyderabad and the ability to independently inspect and clear components at supplier end.
Key Responsibilities
1. Incoming, In-Process & Final Inspection
Conduct visual, dimensional, and functional inspections of mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and flight hardware.
Verify compliance with Engineering drawings, Functional critical dimensions, GD&T, Specifications, and QAPs.
Inspect welded joints, machined surfaces, forming operations, and assemblies as per standards.
2. NDT & Special Process Quality
Coordinate and support NDT activities:
Radiography
Dye Penetrant Test
Ultrasonic Test
Hardness Test
Monitor special processes such as welding, heat treatment, anodizing, chemical cleaning, and surface preparation.
Ensure qualification and validity of WPS, PQR, welder qualifications, and process checklists.
3. Dimensional Measurement & Validation
Perform measurements using:
Vernier, micrometre, bore gauges, Vernier Height Gauge, Vernier Depth Gauge & Height gauge,
Bevel Protractor, Sine Bar, Combination Set, Clinometer, Spirit Level, Autocollimator
Slip Gauges (Gauge Blocks), Ring Gauge, Plug Gauges, Feeler Gauges, Snap Gauges& Pitch Gauges.
CMM, Profile Projector, VMM, Laser Tracker & Fero Arm
Validate critical tolerances, alignments, fit-up conditions, and mating interfaces.
Support stage-level or subsystem validation.
4. Documentation & Traceability
Prepare and maintain inspection reports, NCRs, deviation reports, job travellers, and traceability records.
Ensure all documentation complies with AS9100, aerospace QMS, and customer requirements.
Verify material certificates, heat treatment reports, NDT reports, and calibration certificates.
5. Quality Assurance Activities
Participate in internal audits, process audits, and supplier audits.
Support FRACAS, CAPA, and root cause analysis for failures and non-conformances.
Ensure adherence to cleanliness, ESD, foreign object prevention (FOD) norms.
6. Testing & Clearance Support
Support mechanical system tests:
Pressure tests
Leak tests
Load tests
Helium leak detection
Ensure pre-test setup checks, gauge calibration, and safety compliance.
Assist QC/QA leads in final acceptance and hardware clearance.
