How You’ll Make An Impact

SiriusXM is rapidly enhancing its digital footprint to drive further engagement of consumers via smartphones, tablets, PCs, and connected devices, while continuing to maintain and grow its adoption in connected cars. This position has the exciting opportunity to be a key contributor at the starting phase of enterprise wide software engineering replatforming; specifically identity, commerce, SDK, and cloud native environment design. This is a senior engineer responsible for understanding and supporting our digital (non-automotive) client applications and their interactions with services architecture and functionality as well as executing operational support across our digital application ecosystem for SiriusXM, Pandora, & Stitcher. This individual will have the opportunity to work across the Product, Engineering, Data, and Operations teams to harmonize our efforts toward shared company goals. The Staff Software Engineer will be part of a team of operations site reliability engineers on their journey through the technological enabled transformation of our core business.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a valued stakeholder for the introduction of new features within our digital client application ecosystem in collaboration with engineering leadership through design and development of our new platform
  • Define, build, and advance mature tooling for:
    • Data orchestration and security
    • Observability of platform health
    • Support of end-to-end application performance health, productivity and effectiveness
    • New feature integration support
  • Manage application and systems configurations across key components within our services environment
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering on enhanced understanding of metrics and insights
  • Coordinate with Product and Engineering on client experimentation programs as well as formulation and release of major features and functionality
  • Provide Tier 2+/advanced application troubleshooting and support with emphasis on identity, commerce, and data services domains
  • Drive the formulation of SLIs, SLAs, and SLOs for new application systems
  • Work within industry leading observability tooling such as Datadog, Sentry.io, and Conviva
  • Help lead the efforts to understand system interactions for key user journeys for expert debugging and diagnosis
  • Serve as key member of post-incident review and analysis

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Management or similar field, or equivalent experience, in lieu of degree
  • 10+ years of industry experience in software development
  • Deep understanding and proficiency with:
    • Nodejs, JS, Typescript
    • AWS system architecture and components like EC2, S3, Cloudwatch, Secrets Manager
    • CDK or similar
    • Unit testing frameworks and methodologies
    • REST APIs, API performance testing, API development
  • Lead or contribute to investigations and discussions with other developers, product management, designers, data scientists as a representative of the Operations team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; effectively communicate and collaborate with multiple levels of Product, Data, and Engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of engineering software processes, lifecycle methodology, configuration management, release management, and system verification and testing
  • Experience and proven track record of maintaining software at scale to millions of active users
  • Write clear and concise documentation for your code
  • Willingness and ability to take initiative and follow through on projects
  • API development and testing with Postman / Newman
  • Mentoring and training new team members or more junior engineers
  • CI/CD, build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins, Github actions, Terraform
  • Building and distributing command line tools via Bash or similar
  • Agile/Scrum methodologies, Jira, Wiki
  • Writing / maintaining sequence diagrams
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
At SiriusXM, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We expect the base salary for this position to be in the range of $101,000 to $200,000 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
