How You’ll Make An Impact

The Staff Software Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, development, and integration of components for an OEM implementations of a Sirius XM Radio. The main language used is C++ utilized in Linux and Android environments. The SDK that the team works on will be used by millions of vehicles on the road (BMW, Audi, FCA, GM, Subaru, etc).

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of being a lead contributor on embedded development teams - designing, implementing, and testing sophisticated software architectures and will have been directly responsible for architecting and developing software. This position requires a detail-oriented individual that is a self-starter who can work both independently and within a team environment. The ability to mentor senior software engineers is paramount to success of the candidate.

What You’ll Do

  • Translate product and business requirements and objectives into technical solutions and architectures which are applicable and appropriate for automotive applications to implement features and products with OEM customers.
  • Implement requirements in the form of technical applications and solutions for advanced features for Sirius XM service delivery, via both satellite and IP paths.
  • Lead feasibility analyses, program effort estimates, and assist in work planning in a collaborative agile environment with multiple teams.
  • Provide risk analysis, prioritization, and scheduling of outstanding change requests (bugs) and feature enhancements.
  • Develop methods to utilize various software development/debug tools and train others to utilize effectively.
  • Provide expert technical support to Sirius XM’s automotive partners in their design efforts and triage/troubleshoot difficult issues with them.
  • Provide regular and accurate reports to the Senior Director of Software Application Development and perform special projects, lab/field testing, and other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

What you’ll need:

  • A BSEE or BSCS or equivalent is required. MSEE or MSCS or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years of successful, relevant software development experience. Acceptable product areas include:
    • Automotive sound manufacturers (radio head units, telematics systems, navigation systems, etc.)
    • Android or iOS Apps
    • Mobile telephone systems
    • Satellite receivers
    • Automotive engine controllers
    • Instrument Clusters
    • Embedded software for Medical devices
    • Bluetooth and / or WiFi products

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in C++ development (C++ programming experience is required)
  • Expertise in object oriented methodologies, and system software design concepts
  • Experience in embedded software development for Android, QNX or Linux
  • Experience in participating in formal documentation and source code reviews, providing relevant and insightful feedback to team members
  • Experience with configuration management and defect tracking tools (GITHUB and JIRA)
  • Working knowledge of Inter-Process Communication
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages (Ruby, Python)
  • Working knowledge of XML, JSON, HTML
  • Working knowledge with REST HTTP protocols
  • Working knowledge of CI tools (Jenkins, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Java a major plus, including utilization of JNI.
  • Familiarity with IDEs and development/debugging tools
