Job Purpose:

Product engineering ownership and direct customer technical interaction from initial User Requirements to operation of Simera Sense’s products, including hardware and software, using systems thinking principles.

Responsibilities:

Cost Analysis and Optimisation

  • Works with the Group Systems Engineering, Project Management, and Development managers to ensure that overall technical solutions are optimised from a budget, multidivisional collaboration, and technical risk management perspective.

Contract Management

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers and vendors with the necessary technical engagement.
  • Ensure that contractual agreements are financially favourable and comply with budgetary constraints to ensure quality and engineering excellence of the Product lifecycle.

Customer Requirements Gathering

  • Engage with customers to digest user requirements and operational use cases.
  • Record user requirements and operational use cases using the prescribed Simera requirements management tool.

Solution Development and Customisation

  • Define system architecture and requirements based on internal or external customer needs and mission objectives.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including optical, mechanical, embedded electronics, and software engineers, to develop innovative solutions that meet technical requirements and performance goals, guided by the Simera organisational development strategy.

System Design and Development

  • Lead the systems engineering effort for development projects from concept to delivery, ensuring adherence to project technical requirements, schedule, and budget constraints.

Requirements Management

  • Derive system requirements and acceptance criteria together with verification methods.
  • Translate vague or abstract customer requirements into technical architectural system designs and constraints.
  • Translate vague or abstract customer requirements into technical specifications.
  • Flow down system requirements across the domain development teams, including suppliers using the prescribed Simera requirements management tool through requirements allocation.
  • Conduct system-level analysis, modelling, and simulation to validate design concepts and performance predictions.

Baseline Management

  • Support baseline management through the establishment of product or system baselines at the various system lifecycle stages as identified by the Simera Sense Systems Engineering Management Plan.

Integration and Testing

  • Lead product integration and test and verification activities, including deployment, to ensure hardware and software meet specifications and requirements, and that all external interfaces meet approved Interface Control Documents (ICD).
  • Support deployed systems to ensure end-to-end validation, as well as input for future development

Non-Conformance and Change Management

  • Support troubleshooting and fault-finding with respect to the product integration and testing to aid in fault diagnostics, rectification, or to ensure corrective action is implemented.
  • Manage drafting and registration of non-conformances through waivers and concessions.
  • Provide input and support for Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) to design baselines.
  • Communicate Level 1 Engineering Change Notices (ECN) to the Client.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate project status, risks, and issues to senior management and stakeholders.

Continuous Product Improvement and Compliance

  • Advance the maturity of systems and products through application of recognised engineering competence and skills.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Optimising Engineering Processes

  • Provide inputs for improvement and optimisation initiatives of System Engineering processes, procedures and methodologies to the Group Systems Engineering Manager.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and integrity of systems engineering outcomes.
  • Adopt a Lean Management approach and apply agile principles.
  • Support business development activities.
  • Contribute to strategic thinking.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in computer science or related Engineering fields.

Required Experience:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in embedded software systems utilising Linux or Unix-type OS.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex software projects from concept to deployment.
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in earth observation payload/missions and image processing-associated activities.
  • A good understanding of processing needs derived from optical remote sensing mission requirements.
  • Strong technical expertise in systems engineering supported through Systems Engineering course certifications.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools and methodologies, such as requirements management, system modelling, and simulation.
  • Experience in configuration management and configuration management systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment in multiple geographic locations, managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Understanding and applying advanced systems engineering methodologies to design, integrate, and manage complex space systems across the complete lifecycle of a system or product, at all levels of the systems hierarchy.
  • Proficiency in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) techniques
  • Proficiency in preparing technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.

Recommendations:

  • Certification as a Systems Engineering Professional will be advantageous.
  • Using MBSE tools.
  • Experience using Siemens Teamcenter PLM tools.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance systems (ISO 9001)

  • Communicate effectively in English (both written and verbally).
