Simera Sense is fast becoming a leading mid to high-resolution earth observation camera supplier for nano-, micro-, and small satellites. Our optical payload products and image processing services aim to offer complete space imaging solutions for small satellites with plans to expand. We are a fast-growing, dynamic team of enthusiastic engineers that supplies space and satellite companies from around the globe with our main operations based in Somerset West, South Africa. As we continue to grow and expand our operations, we seek a dynamic Business Development Manager to join our Commercial team in Leuven, Belgium.

Job Purpose

Assist with identifying and pursuing new business opportunities to drive growth and profitability and sell complex optical payloads for satellites and related services.

Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities

Financial

  • Monitor and report on financial performance, including forecasting future revenue and growth opportunities.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on business development activities.
  • Formulate strategies to drive business growth and improve market position.
  • Align business development strategies with overall company objectives.

Customer

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with current and potential customers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Keep internal CRM portals up to date with lead and client information.
  • Prepare and present proposals to potential clients.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure new business deals.
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and trade shows to network and identify potential business partners.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships to enhance business growth.
  • Ensure client satisfaction by addressing their needs and concerns promptly.
  • Foster long-term relationships to encourage repeat business and referrals.

Internal

  • Executing and implementing strategies to grow and make the business more profitable.
  • Create detailed business plans to facilitate the attainment of goals and quotas.
  • Conduct thorough market research to identify emerging trends, potential markets, and competitive landscape.
  • Analyse data to understand customer needs and preferences within the space industry.
  • Work closely with engineering, marketing, and sales teams to ensure alignment and support for business development initiatives.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across departments.

Innovation and learning

  • Continuously seek out new business opportunities and markets within the space industry.
  • Stay updated on industry developments and technological advancements.
  • Keep abreast of market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes.
  • Use this information to adapt strategies and maintain a competitive edge.

Required Qualification

  • Advanced Engineering, marketing, business administration, or related field degree.

Required Experience

  • Three years’ experience in client engagement and the space technology field.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.

Required technical competencies

  • The ability to relate technical information to non-technical customers.
  • Strong skills in technical writing for documentation, reports, and communication with stakeholders.
  • Understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and cost management to support business development activities.
  • Experience in sales strategies, marketing campaigns, and customer relationship management specific to the space sector.

Special requirement

  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Hybrid work model and must be able to travel to the Leuven, Belgium offices from time to time, when required.
