Job Description:
Shield AI is seeking an ambitious and technically skilled Senior Revenue Accountant to join our fast-growing Accounting team. This role is instrumental in driving operational excellence and compliance within our revenue recognition processes across our advanced defense software and hardware programs. You will oversee the full revenue lifecycle—from contract review through month-end close—collaborating closely with Legal, Sales, Program Finance, and Business Development to ensure compliance with ASC 606 and optimize deal structures. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of technology, finance, and national security innovation.
What you'll do:
- Manage and review customer contracts to ensure accurate and compliant revenue recognition under ASC 606, partnering cross-functionally with Legal, Sales, and Program Finance.
- Own and continuously evolve Shield AI’s revenue recognition policies, including SSP analyses and allocations, as new pricing models and product lines are introduced.
- Lead monthly and quarterly revenue close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, analyses, and preparation of supporting documentation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on ASC 606, providing guidance on complex technical accounting issues and contract structuring.
- Support audit readiness, including preparation of schedules, memos, and responses to internal and external audit inquiries.
- Partner with FP&A and Operations to provide accurate revenue forecasts, KPIs, and insights that drive strategic decision-making.
- Streamline and enhance order-to-cash processes, implementing SOX controls and corporate accounting policies.
- Participate in special projects related to new product launches, international expansion, and process automation.
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in revenue accounting under ASC 606; CPA strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of order-to-cash (OTC) processes and their operational impact.
- Prior experience in SaaS, PaaS, or technology-driven industries; defense or aerospace experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with ERP and CRM systems and strong Excel/analytical skills.
- Strong technical accounting background, including the preparation of technical memos and documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of translating technical guidance into practical business insights.
- Proven ability to work effectively across departments and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with public company accounting or Big 4 audit background.
- Familiarity with government contracting regulations (FAR, CAS, DFARS).
- Experience supporting international entities or multi-currency transactions.
- Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal control frameworks.
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint.
