Role: Software Test & Integration Engineer (Automation Magician)
Location: San Diego, CA (in-office)
Salary Range: $90,000-$120,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits.
Role Overview:
We’re looking for a Software Test & Integration Engineer to help ensure our parts and vehicles roll off the production line ready to conquer the world—or at least operate reliably. You’ll perform manual and automated checkouts, troubleshoot issues, and work tirelessly to make your own job obsolete by automating the heck out of it.
But if you succeed in automating yourself out of work completely, don’t worry—we’ve got plenty of other exciting challenges for you (probably involving lasers, but no promises).
About You:
You're a technically savvy tinkerer with a keen eye for detail, equally comfortable tackling projects independently or collaborating within tight-knit teams. You likely have more ideas than time, and if you have a garage, it's probably hosted plenty of experiments. In addition to your hands-on approach, you have a passion for writing thorough tests to ensure everything works flawlessly.
- An obsession with details: You can spot a misplaced semicolon or a loose bolt from across the room.
- Prototyping wizardry: You’ve built things with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or something even cooler we’ve never heard of. Bonus points if you’ve had to explain why your project was smoking to a concerned friend or authority figure.
- A tinkerer’s mindset: You love taking things apart, understanding how they work, and (hopefully) putting them back together.
- A self-starter mentality: You see a problem and can’t resist fixing it, even if it means inventing a tool to do it.
- A strong sense of humor: You can laugh at yourself when your automated test rig develops sentience.
Role Details:
You’ll be a key part of the production and testing processes for our autonomous surface vehicles. Some responsibilities might include:
- Test and troubleshoot components and vehicles throughout the production process.
- Build and refine manual and automated testing processes.
- Find bugs, squash them, and then brag about it to the team.
- Design and implement test automation tools, so that you can push a button and relax while the robots do all the work for you.
- Prototype testing gadgets—think Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and duct tape.
- Harden the useful testing gadgets—think reduce duct tape and increase documentation.
- Keep detailed records, because even the best tinkerer needs a paper trail.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with manual testing and debugging of electrical/software systems (cross-disciplinary experience is a plus!).
- Familiarity with test automation tools or scripting (ex. Python / pytest, bash)
- Proficient in version control systems (ex. Git)
- Experience with issue/task tracking systems (ex. Jira, Asana, etc)
- Evidence of having built something cool or weird, even if it didn’t work quite right.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience in a production environment where deadlines are tight and the coffee flows like water.
- An irrational love of spreadsheets and flowcharts.
Life at Seasats:
If you join, along with your salary, you’ll enjoy:
- A workplace where tinkering is celebrated and curiosity is king.
- The satisfaction of knowing you helped create something awesome (and that it works).
- Stock options
- Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
- 401k matching up to 4% of salary
- Four free lunches per week
- An employee activity fund
- A pet-friendly office
- Unlimited/Flex PTO
- A team that genuinely enjoys what they do, even when the robots rebel.
We’ll help you ramp up and will regularly take time to discuss what’s working and what’s not. We’re also big on personal freedoms: if you’re on top of your responsibilities and want the afternoon off to surf or spend time with friends and family, go for it! We have flexible hours, accommodating PTO, and a personable, high-achieving work culture. We want someone who’s excited to work hard and have fun in this environment.
Our values are listed below; we’re happy to explain them more during the interview process.
- Get Stuff Done
- Be Kind
- Fight Entropy
- Attack with Overwhelming Force
- Ask More Questions
- Lines, Not Dots
