About Satellogic

Satellogic is a vertically integrated Earth Observation company that designs, manufactures, and operates satellite systems, delivering decision-grade insights at scale to government and commercial customers.

We build space systems end-to-end, from satellite design and manufacturing to launch and on-orbit operations, giving us the ability to deploy quickly, operate reliably, and support persistent monitoring across regions and priority areas. Our approach moves customers beyond one-off imagery toward continuous awareness and alert-driven decision-making, with flexible pathways that can evolve from managed monitoring to full satellite ownership and sovereign control.

Our technology supports a wide range of use cases across climate monitoring, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, defense and intelligence, helping organizations detect change, manage risk, and plan with confidence.

With a team of approximately 150 employees across five countries, Satellogic brings together expertise in satellite engineering, software development, data science, manufacturing, operations, and go-to-market. We’re a group of purpose-driven builders who value ownership, curiosity, and execution—and who work with humility, honesty, and empathy.

About the team

We are continuously pushing improvements in our optical payloads and assemblies. We are responsible for the full optical lifecycle—from high-level conceptualization and modeling to defining precise component specifications. We work hand-in-hand with the AIT team, translating our designs into verified, flight-ready hardware.

The team is always learning and trying to push the limits, relying in part on the large diversity of people’s profiles and backgrounds.

About the position

You will be responsible for leading the execution of projects including the Model, design and analysis of high-performance imaging hardware, specifically focusing on telescopes and optical elements assemblies. You will work with the optoelectronics team to design and validate designs through rigorous calibration and experimentation in our labs and plant. Your scope extends to the project's operational success, including designing, manufacturing, supplier development and the tracking of key development phases.

Location

Our labs are located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Remote work is acceptable depending on the stage of the projects and you will be coordinating availability with your manager according to Satellogic needs. This position requires a high availability to travel to our facility in Uruguay.

Responsibilities

  • Technically and strategically lead the optical payload elements development activities.
  • Be the primary technical point of contact responsible for the optical elements as filters and telescopes, interfacing with the Payload Subsystem Manager and other engineers (Optical, Mechanical, Thermal, electronics, etc)
  • Interpret mission specific and spacecraft system level requirements and establish the baseline technical requirements for the optical elements.
  • Provide technical support for operations.
  • Prepare/update/present subsystem design analysis documentation for design reviews throughout the project life cycle milestones & reviews.
  • Define with your team the integration and test plans and requirements for the optical elements development.
  • Provide technical input to future payload developments and contribute to continuous improvement of products, systems and processes
  • Oversee the optical elements as telescopes manufacture and AIT activities
  • Manage any anomalies or non-conformances occurring throughout the project life cycle and present NCRs
  • Suggest improvements in optomechanical design to simplify manufacturing processes and improve manufacturing quality.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers in optomechanical design of space optical systems components.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers in the development of optical alignment, integration and calibration procedures.
  • Collaborate with product managers on requirements and feasibility analysis of projects involving optical components or processes.
  • Define with your team and engineer acceptance criteria, quality metrics and acceptance procedures for external suppliers.
  • Partner with multiple suppliers to obtain the best product costing and quality and improve supply chain reliability.

About you

Experience

  • Degree in optical engineering, applied mathematics, mechanics, optomechanics, physics, image processing or similar field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience executing complex engineering projects in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
  • 5+ years of experience in optics, photography, laser engineering, sensors, camera design, optomechanics or similar
  • 3+ years leading projects.

Skills

  • Advanced English proficiency levels.
  • Capacity to learn continuously and passion for pushing the limits.
  • Passion about lenses, telescopes, space photography and pushing the limits of current technologies.

What we value

  • Experience / background with ray tracing optical design
  • Experience / background with opto-mechanical design
  • Experience in image processing techniques (basic)
  • Availability to travel to suppliers (mainly in Europe) or manufacturing plant (in Uruguay) as required
  • Since the supply chain is critical for high-performance telescopes, experience in international contract management or quality auditing for external optical components is valued
  • Management experience and project management.
