About the team
The Systems Engineering team is in charge of the design of new spacecraft models, the negotiation of technical system requirements, the requirement verification plan and specification, and the management and definition of systems budgets and interfaces.
The team is always learning and trying to push the limits, relying in part on the large diversity of people’s profiles and backgrounds.
About the position
As a Software Systems Engineer you will be part of one or more space programs inside the Research, Development and Operation (RDO) organization. You will manage constellation, spacecraft and ground software requirements (use cases based on the Concept of Operations), define high level architecture (components, interfaces, etc), encompassing payload functionality, state machines, Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) strategy among others.
In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end system datapath, operating at the constellation level across both space and ground segments, extending beyond individual spacecraft. Your primary goal is to ensure mission objectives and product quality by building and maintaining a cohesive end-to-end architecture, aligning the efforts of various subsystem owners.
You will work closely with the product team to translate use cases into actionable software work packages, define their scope, and oversee their timely and correct execution by the R&D teams. You will be in charge of the operational software verification plan and ensure the end-to-end delivery of the final product that the satellites produce according to client needs. You will also be responsible for interpreting client requirements and transforming them into a high-level execution plan, while securing the detailed engineering execution across the R&D teams.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Interpret mission specific and spacecraft system level software requirements based on the Concept of Operations
- Design and maintain the software architecture of different systems, including the state machines, FDIR, and application software.
- Define software work packages for R&D teams and oversee their development
- Align subsystem software efforts to ensure a cohesive and efficient end-to-end Datapath architecture
- Prepare, present and maintain software architecture documents
- Define lower level technical requirements and APIs to lower level software layers
Location: Buenos Aires is desirable.
About you
Required Experience:
- BSc (or equivalent experience) in Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in Software Architecture or Systems Engineering in interdisciplinary teams.
Required Skills:
- Problem solving: Ability to analyze problems and search for solutions, always exploring multiple alternatives.
- Communication: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in excellent Spanish and English at all hierarchical levels.
- Organization: Excellent people, time, and risk management skills.
- Systems Thinking: Understanding trade-offs, basic engineering, and budgets.
- Attitude: Empathy, initiative, accountability.
