Job Overview
We are currently seeking a Composites Technician to join our innovative team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the fabrication and assembly of composite materials used in the construction of our autonomous surface vessels (ASVs).

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate composite structures and components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing instructions.
  • Perform lay-up, vacuum bagging, and curing processes for composite materials, ensuring quality and adherence to project requirements.
  • Operate hand and power tools, as well as specialized equipment, for cutting, trimming, and finishing composite parts and assemblies.
  • Conduct quality inspections and tests on composite materials and products to verify conformance to design specifications and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to troubleshoot issues and implement improvements in composite manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and regulations for handling composite materials and chemicals.
  • Document work performed, including process parameters, inspection results, and any deviations from established procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new composite manufacturing techniques and technologies to improve efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in composite fabrication preferred.
  • Proven experience in composite manufacturing, including lay-up, vacuum bagging, and curing processes.
  • Familiarity with composite materials, resins, and adhesives commonly used in aerospace or marine applications.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents related to composite fabrication.
  • Proficiency in operating hand and power tools, as well as composite-specific equipment such as resin mixing systems and curing ovens.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards, with the ability to produce high-quality composite parts and assemblies.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and techniques in composite manufacturing.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
  • Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
  • Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump cap and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
