About us

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we’re on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do

You will lead a product engineering team within the Viasat Advertising organisation, building software that powers advertising experiences across the aviation ecosystem and operates at substantial scale with real‑world impact.

As an Engineering Team Lead, you will combine people leadership and technical contribution to enable teams to deliver high‑quality, high‑value software. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, and business stakeholders to develop priorities, translate requirements into actionable plans, and ensure teams are set up for sustainable delivery.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Help scale the Advertising engineering organisation by standing up and maturing a second product team
  • Influence technical direction, software quality, and ways of working
  • Apply and advocate modern development practices, including the responsible use of AI‑assisted tooling
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, data experts, and commercial partners across Viasat

Your work directly supports Advertising growth objectives by improving delivery speed, quality, and execution capacity.

The day-to-day

On a day‑to‑day basis, you will balance team leadership, delivery oversight, and hands‑on technical involvement.

Typical activities include:

  • Leading team ceremonies such as planning, stand‑ups, and retrospectives
  • Working with Product to refine priorities and maintain a well‑defined backlog
  • Mentoring engineers through one‑to‑ones, feedback, and career conversations
  • Contributing to architectural discussions and technical decision‑making
  • Removing delivery blockers and improving how work flows through the team
  • Partnering with peers across Engineering, Product, and the Advertising business

You’ll help teams adopt tools and practices that improve developer productivity and software quality, including automation, continuous delivery, and AI‑assisted development where appropriate.

What you'll need

  • Experience working as a software engineer on production systems
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating the work of other specialists
  • Practical understanding of the software development lifecycle and modern delivery practices
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with product and technical stakeholders
  • Experience contributing to technical discussions and supporting delivery of software products

What will help you on the job

The most successful candidates typically bring strengths that go beyond baseline requirements, such as:

  • Experience managing or formally leading software engineering teams
  • A track record of hiring, developing, and retaining engineers
  • Comfort shaping or influencing technology and product strategy
  • Experience evolving or establishing agile ways of working to suit team and product context
  • Curiosity about and direct experience with AI-assisted development tools
  • Experience working on advertising, media, or other data‑driven products
  • A data‑informed mentality and a strong focus on continuous improvement
  • Irish or valid work permit

As the Advertising organisation grows, this role has the opportunity to expand in scope and influence, helping shape how teams, platforms, and engineering practices evolve over time.
