What you'll do

As a Senior Project Manager, you will be accountable for the overall project delivery processes including project planning, scheduling, costing, execution, risk management and change activities and closing processes.


The day-to-day

The Senior Project Manager is an important and strategic role, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the execution of complex projects that fall within Viasat's Global Services portfolio.

You are responsible for owning and managing complex projects from ideation to implementation, contributing to crafting and driving multiple concurrent initiatives to deliver value to our customers. This role collaborates with internal and external resources, coordinating project team efforts across Technology, Operations, Engineering, and Business to deliver projects according to plan. Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Lead the planning and execution of projects that align to IT priorities including requirements such as scope, delivery plan and timelines, risks, issues, and opportunities
  • Develop and implement prioritization strategies for project success in a matrix management setting
  • Hold members of the cross functional teams accountable for their deliverables and where deliverables are off track own the recovery / mitigation plan and the approval of any appropriate resolution such as change requests, increases to budget and re-forecasting delivery timelines
  • Managing several concurrent highly visible, business critical projects using agile methods in a fast-paced environment
  • Work with product owners to achieve a high level of performance and quality providing exceptional business value
  • Work with subject matter experts to develop work package definitions, estimates and high-level schedules
  • Create and maintain a high-level program plan identifying cross project dependencies
  • Guide and coach team members and ensure they understand their roles, responsibilities and deliverables within the overall plan
  • Drive collaboration and teamwork to execute the plan and monitor progress against the plan
  • Ensure transparency while carrying out effective and proactive risk, issue & change management
  • Organize and chair steering groups of senior management stakeholders to provide status reporting and assist with risk, issue & change management
  • Provide accurate and timely status reporting
  • Work as part of a wider team of project managers to collaboratively develop and continuously improve standard project governance process and procedures along with ongoing compliance
  • Work as a mentor to more junior Project Managers and share knowledge
  • Developing, agreeing, and managing project budgets including owning forecast and actual costs

What you'll need

  • 7+ years' experience in Project Management in a technical environment
  • Proven knowledge and experience of all stages of the project lifecycle, from business case development, scoping and mobilization to design, implementation and deployment of capabilities and benefits realization
  • Demonstrated experience using project management tools such as MS Project, Jira, Confluence & Microsoft Teams
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio)
  • Experience working with outsourced and internal delivery units
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage shifting priorities, demands and timelines
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to build relationships with technical, business, and senior management collaborators
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Validated organization skill with excellent attention to detail
  • A high energy level with a dynamic, positive and ‘can do’ style
  • Proven ability to work under pressure against short timescales
  • Strong budget management and financial reporting skill
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification of project methods (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, MSP, Six Sigma) and Agile and/or Lean delivery methodologies (e.g., PMI-ACP, Scrum)
  • US Citizenship or permanent residence required
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Salary range

$131,000.00 - $206,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $162,500.00- $243,500.00/ annually
