What you'll do

Join Viasat as a Senior Quality Manager and become a key leader within our Government Quality Team! This isn't just a management role; it's an opportunity to be deeply involved in the product lifecycle. You'll be a working manager, providing hands-on expertise to drive the quality of our complex new and existing products. Simultaneously, you'll serve as a vital people leader, mentoring and guiding our product quality engineers and collaborating closely with product teams to ensure the successful deployment and sustainment of our critical systems.


The day-to-day

  • You'll take ownership of a significant program, acting as the primary Quality Engineer and getting hands-on with its success.
  • Provide your expert quality guidance to our program management, engineering, and operations teams. You'll make sure we're always meeting our quality goals.
  • You'll be responsible for planning and executing all quality activities with your team of talented quality engineers.
  • Work closely with our supply chain partners to significantly improve the quality of our suppliers.
  • Collaborate with our Reliability team to track and enhance system Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and overall product availability.
  • Partner with our Engineering team to promote the best quality practices and develop improved automation and methods for detecting failures.
  • Organize and staff the quality function to meet Viasat's business needs. This includes attracting and developing diverse talent.
  • Work with other Viasat locations to generate and analyze important Quality Assurance (QA) metrics.
  • Support new business ventures and emerging markets by developing and implementing crucial quality processes across our expanding global operations.
  • Mentor and develop the next generation of quality leaders within Viasat's Government business.

What you'll need

  • 8+ years in quality, operations, or engineering, specifically in a development and manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years leading and developing teams.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a related field; a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of AS9100 / AS9110 / ISO 9001 accreditations and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical process control principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, procedures, and process guidelines, and to accurately record and interpret data.
  • Hands-on experience with a PLM Tool (like Agile) and an ERP system (like Oracle or SAP).
  • Proficiency in Lean Six Sigma tools (such as FMEA, 8D, 5 Why) and other failure analysis quality tools.
  • Leadership & Development: You can effectively lead, mentor, and develop team members, including those working remotely across multiple US and international locations.

  • Autonomous: You can work independently and effectively with minimal direction.
  • Diligent: You pay close attention to the small details of any project or task.
  • Technically Curious: You're able to quickly grasp complex technical topics and information.

What will help you on the job

  • Experience with hardware and software development and manufacturing in Government, Space, and Telecommunication industries.
  • Familiarity with government processes and requirements, including DCMA, FAR, DFARS, GIDEP, and Government Property Management.
  • Understanding of Agile Software Development and are familiar with key industry standards such as IPC 610, IPC-620S, J-STD-001S, MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-38534, EEE-INST-002, and Aerospace TOR requirements.

Salary range

$147,000.00 - $232,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $181,500.00- $272,500.00/ annually
