Viasat is seeking a passionate and innovative professional to join our team as a Facility Security Officer (FSO) and COMSEC Manager of the Tempe, AZ location. You’ll work in a collaborative and inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and continuous learning. The day-to-day

This position is responsible for maintaining strict compliance with government, customer and company security policies, 32 CFR Part 117, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), NSA CSS 3/16, contractually imposed Program Security Directives/Guides, and Viasat Standard Practices and Procedures (SPP).

The essential functions of the FSO and COMSEC Manager include:

  • FSO supports all aspects of the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) protecting people, information and company assets.
  • COMSEC Manager maintains a DIAS COMSEC Account database and orders, receives, dispatches and stores COMSEC equipment and keying material.
  • Work with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA), NSA, government customers and contractor personnel in a professional manner.
  • Liaison with local and federal law enforcement, federal investigators, and emergency response personnel.
  • Provide accredited Information Systems support for local environments in coordination with the ISSM and COMPUSEC team.
  • Effectively apply compliant physical and procedural local security measures with minimal negative impacts to business operations.
  • Objectively and professionally conduct investigations regarding sensitive issues and violations of compliance requirements and written policies.
  • Responsible for shipping and receiving of sensitive packages, destruction, and inventory management through Security Information Management System (SIMS).
  • Provide security briefings, debriefings, and awareness training for site personnel.
  • Processing outgoing and incoming visit requests through DISS.
  • Implement the local Insider Threat Program and SEAD 3 reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for visitor control administration and oversight of plant security operations.
  • Maintain, audit, and evaluate industrial security practices against contractual requirements.
  • Participate in periodic self-inspections and assessments as required by DCSA, NSA and other government reviews.
  • Conditionally support the Special Programs team IAW Intelligence Community Directives (ICD), DoD 5205.07 SAP Manuals volumes 1-4, and Risk Management Framework (NIST 800-53, JSIG).
  • Work independently as well as with a team of Industrial Security Specialists.
  • Complete safety related duties with oversight and direction from Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety staff.

What you'll need

  • US Citizenship with active Top Secret Clearance.
  • 4+ years’ experience supporting the DoD or cleared defense industry implementing the NISPOM.
  • Prior experience as a COMSEC Manager or Custodian applying DIAS as the system of record.
  • Familiarity with security applications, such as DISS, NISS, and SIMS.
  • Enable the business as a customer service provider through timely assistance and direction supporting program execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Availability to respond to after-hours alarms and emergency conditions.
  • General understanding of the accreditation process and technical capability to assist the Computer Security team with occasional low level support (i.e. installing and removing systems, performing reboots, resetting COMSEC equipment, accessing BIOS, maintaining Baselines, etc.).

What will help you on the job

  • Completion of the DCSA National Security Learning Center FSO Program Management for Possessing Facilities Curriculum.
  • NSA COR COMSEC Account Manager Training Course.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, possess good problem-solving capability and able to enforce policies in a professional and personable manner.
  • Excellent written communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Possess the interpersonal abilities necessary to deal courteously and effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Being a self-starter with the ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience as an FSO and COMSEC Manager or Custodian.
  • Expertise of the NISPOM and other Government directives/policies with proven, sustain history of an effective security program.
  • Familiarity with controls related to DAAPM, CUI/FOUO, and CMMC.

Salary range

$76,000.00 - $120,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $92,000.00- $138,000.00/ annually
