What you'll do

Viasat is hiring a proactive Material Packaging Specialist to support our worldwide inventory fulfillment. You'll have a key role in ensuring smooth operations for our Manufacturing, Service, and Engineering teams, as well as direct customer shipments. This includes evaluating packaging needs for equipment and materials and working with Quality and Program Managers to optimize the crating process. Your initiative will be crucial in meeting internal and external customer demands quickly and efficiently.


The day-to-day

  • Responsible for product verification for revision correctness, material packaging and inventory accuracy against the bill of material requirements.
  • Assess product crating and packaging needs for shipments to our customers or installation teams by meticulously validating quality control in a manner that meets company standards for safety, security, productivity, and accuracy.
  • Assemble boxes, skids, crates or platforms used for shipping equipment and machine parts.
  • Inspect and report equipment maintenance as required and in accordance with preventive maintenance standards.
  • Pick work orders, perform work order close transactions and inventory stocking activities.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the group lead including occasional work at any of our local off-site warehouses and any projects as required.

What you'll need

  • 3-5 years’ experience with material packaging, woodworking or the like.
  • Experience operating powered industrialized trucks (forklifts and reach lifts).
  • Ability to use mechanical impact tools, saws and drills.
  • Ability to work to drawings and documented procedures.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Material control and physical inventory maintenance experience.
  • Prior working knowledge of measurement.
  • Prominent level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Self-starter, exhibit strong problem-solving skills, and a bias for action. They are team-oriented and possess a forward-looking approach to process refinement.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

What will help you on the job

  • Carpentry or construction type skills.
  • Familiarity with Barcode and/or RFID equipment.
  • Prior crating experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Excel and Word.

Salary range

$18.51 - $29.09 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $22.84 - $34.38/ hourly
