What you'll do
You will contribute to and support the management of a wide range of internal Viasat initiatives. You must have an understanding of the basics of the maintenance of SATCOM capabilities and be able to contribute to schedule updates, project reviews and maintenance reporting. You will have the opportunity to support the growth of the business not just through maintenance projects but also through supporting project management, proposal development and customer engagement.
The day-to-day
You will support the Program Managers with project reporting including scheduling, financial reporting, budgeting, risk management and overall process improvements. In particular, you will:
- Work with a number of partner groups including engineering, service delivery and support services within a global organisation.
- Supervise progress on maintenance projects, understand the impact of change and assist in defining the scope of new and future projects.
- Work with the PM team on whitepapers, bids and proposals with content and cost and scheduling information.
- Receive mentoring and coaching from expert team members who will support you in the role and in your professional growth.
- Interacting with a multitude of internal and external partners, combining interpersonal skills and an analytical approach.
- Remaining proactive and flexible in the way you approach current and new challenges.
- Ensuring systems, procedures, and methodologies are in place to support delivery of contract deliverables.
What you'll need
- Have an understanding of Satellite communications and best practices. This includes Incident management, important metric monitoring, problem management, and service level management.
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders.
- Possess leadership qualities to guide and motivate teams. This includes the ability to lead without authority, to delegate tasks, to provide clear directions and to inspire collaboration and teamwork.
- Being able to multi-task and prioritise work objectives. They need to be able to plan, organise, and coordinate resources, timelines and deliverables.
- Be skilled at analysing situations, identifying problems, determining root causes and proposing effective solutions. They need to be able to think critically and make decisions quickly to address service/solution related challenges.
- Have a continuous improvement mindset. They need to be able to proactively identify areas for improvement, implement process enhancements, and drive efficiency in the services/solutions are handled.
- Must be an Australian citizen and have an active Australian Government Security Clearance (NV1) or have held one previously.
- At least three years experience with maintenance support, analytics and scheduling.
- Hold current trade qualifications in an RF related field.
HSEQ RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting your own duties in a safe manner at all times, resulting in no injuries to self or others, as per company HSEQ Management System requirements;
- Compliance with all relevant Viasat site and customer site HSEQ requirements;
- Participating as required under the locations EHS Consultative arrangements & Committees;
- Allocate appropriate resources to implement and monitor HSEQ within their areas of responsibility;
- Implement HSEQ activity such as risk assessments, inspections, toolbox talks and safety observations;
- Ensuring employees and contractors under their supervision receive HSEQ training and instruction;
- Ensuring all hazards and incidents are immediately reported and corrective actions implemented;
- Employ company rehabilitation and injury management processes as prescribed within the HSEQ Management System;
- Reporting EHS risks or difficulties to senior managers or relevant specialist areas;
- Correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and equipment when required; and
- Provide regular feedback to employees and contractors regarding HSEQ performance

The RAN Industry Placement Technician:
- Should have a solid understanding of satellite earth terminal transmit and receive chain block diagrams.
- Should have a broad technical understanding of satellite telecommunications processes, systems, infrastructure and technologies.
- Experience in Defence Sustainment Contract deliverables and meeting critical metrics.
- Extensive experience utilising various RF test equipment and methodologies.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
