What you'll do

As a Software Engineer Intern, you will be working on software defined networking / routing platforms and services. Employing your existing knowledge of enterprise protocols (EIGRP, VRF, OSPF) and tools (VPNs, VLANs, DLEP) to tailor commercial techniques of SD-WAN to the defense marketplace and operations. You will interact with other engineers in this field to build innovative features into our routing and services platform.


The day-to-day

We are looking for a flexible, self-driven individual, that is willing to learn new technologies. Our product bridges gaps between networking professionals and users requiring networks to be highly resilient in challenging environments. Work will range from graphical user interfaces to creating Linux services to managing network and firewall settings. This is an opportunity for someone to dive into technology in areas that may not have been covered in their current academics.

This position will work with the team starting each day with an Agile SCRUM standup then working tasks such as building requirements, tests, designing and coding features.

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.

  • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.

  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.


What you'll need

Education Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math, and/or a related field
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2027

Internship Dates:

  • You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:

    • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 – August 15th, 2025

    • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 – September 12th, 2025

Additional Requirements

  • Experience with C/C++ and Python
  • US Citizenship required

Salary range

$21 - $66 / hourly
