Are you ready? Viasat is now seeking a Deputy Chief Information Security Officer! Our Deputy CISO will be a senior leader within Viasat's Security Engineering organization and will lead its cybersecurity governance capabilities by driving the strategic development and execution of enterprise-wide cybersecurity initiatives in a fast-pased, global service provider environment. The successful candidate will:
- Establish credible connections with internal and external partners and cultivate a robust cybersecurity landscape, while furthering Viasat's cybersecurity and risk management posture.
- Play a critical role in the development and administration of the strategy, roadmap, and governance model, while collaborating with the CISO and other key Viasat business personnel to develop and communicate Viasat's cybersecurity strategy, roadmap, and risk assessment to executive management, the Board of Directors, and appropriate third parties as required.
- Employ understanding of cybersecurity risk sources, reference frameworks, and mitigation strategies.
- Prioritize cybersecurity investments to deliver risk outcomes that reduce the likelihood and impact of acybers ecurity incident.
The day-to-day
- Understand the evolving threat landscape and adapt the security governance program to effectively mitigate and report upon cybersecurity risk in an evolving technical and business environment.
- Support the overarching cybersecurity strategy and own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for security governance activities.
- Cultivate security awareness and clarity by developing and maintaining the governance program’s key performance indicators/metrics.
- Cooperate with internal and external auditors and other third parties to enforce cybersecurity-related audit and assessment activities. Analyze risk and audit findings and document and make recommendations to Viasat leadership.
- Be a key interface to Viasat’s external cybersecurity information-sharing organizations, as well as law enforcement, intelligence community, and/or appropriate national defense or critical infrastructure protection agencies, and facilitate bilateral information sharing.
- Mentor team members, enhancing their technical and professional development, and promoting their career growth.
- Demonstrate strong technical expertise with controls used to govern, identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover from cybersecurity threats and attacks.
- Collaborate and encourage security adoption; communicate and enhance security policies and standards, and identify security weaknesses.
- Promote a “secure by design” framework across product development lifecycles, and champion a “shift-left” philosophy for addressing security issues and items of significant risk.
What you'll need
- 15+ years of experience leading medium-to-large-scale security organizations, (100-250+ employees, budgetary responsibility of $25-$150M), or similar information systems, compliance, and/or regulatory organizational leadership experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or similar field required.
- Prior experience working in global telecommunications or internet service provider organizations, as well as working with government and other highly-regulated environments, preferred.
- Stellar interpersonal skills, relationship-building and influencing skills; has demonstrated success in influencing key corporate and industry decision-makers and business partners to build positive working relationships and in gaining support for cybersecurity strategy and initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills to promote cybersecurity awareness and advocacy across the organization, including senior leaders, customers, technical staff, end users, board members and/or other key external partners.
- Deep understanding of cybersecurity program planning and sequencing, including governance, risk management, architecture, technology onboarding, vulnerability management, awareness and training, and third-party risk management. Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring of supporting processes.
- Solid technical foundation, including security architecture, vulnerability management, threat modeling, assessment and testing, and secure software development lifecycles.
- Knowledge of common information security management frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 27001, and NIST 800-53/171. Experienced in other cybersecurity regulatory and compliance regimes, (e.g., SOX, SOC2, DFARS, CMMC, PCI, etc.).
- Ability to anticipate technological developments, enhance existing capabilities, policies and procedures to protect the evolution of Viasat’s network.
- Eligible to obtain security clearance, (TS or above).
- Security certifications: CISSP, CISA or CISM, or similar, required.
- US citizenship required.
What will help you on the job

- Prior CISO or Deputy CISO experience desired.
- Master's level technical or management degree preferred.
- Active security clearance a big plus, (TS or above).
- Successful track record as a change agent, setting priorities and delivering high-quality, relevant security outcomes across diverse and dynamic environments. Demonstrates prudent financial and initiative management in the delivery of key results.
- History of cultivating and managing successful technical teams, with a special emphasis on security and software engineering leadership.
Salary range
$257,500.00 - $447,500.00 / annually

Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
