Position Summary:
Revolution Space is looking for a dynamic and growth-oriented Lab Operations & EHS Manager who will be responsible for leading all aspects of laboratory operations, test coordination, environmental health and safety compliance, and day-to-day readiness of the test environment. This role ensures that engineering teams can execute continuous testing while maintaining safe, compliant, and well-controlled lab conditions. The position combines hands-on operational leadership with program development, compliance oversight, and cross-functional coordination across all programs.
This role will be supported by test technicians for daily lab execution and by an external EHS consultant for specialized regulatory expertise. The ideal candidate has 7–10+ years of experience in laboratory operations, test environments, or hardware development labs, with strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations.
The position is full-time, on site at the Boston, MA location.
Responsibilities:
Lab Operations Responsibilities:
- Test scheduling and coordination across all programs
- Equipment capacity planning and utilization tracking
- Weekly management visibility reports
- Oversight of equipment maintenance (non-hands-on)
- Calibration program ownership and record management
- Equipment/consumables procurement planning and justification
- Lab and test-area organization strategy and execution
- Interface between engineering teams and lab resources
- Budget ownership for lab operations
- SOP development, implementation, and approval
EHS Responsibilities:
- Hazardous waste management policies and compliance
- Safety training program development, delivery, and tracking
- Incident reporting coordination with MA&SS and HR
- Permit management (OSHA/EPA/state/local)
- SDS library ownership
- Routine safety audits and inspections
- Ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulations
- Risk assessments across lab operations and test setups
- Emergency response planning and readiness
- PPE specifications and controlled-lab attire program
- Chemical safety and ergonomic
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineering, Mission Assurance, program management, and HR.
- Coordinate with external EHS consultants for audits, specialized tasks, or compliance reviews.
- Provide clear communication to leadership regarding risk, schedule, and safety posture.
Supported by:
- External EHS Consultant for complex regulatory tasks, audits, hazmat, and documentation
- Lab/Test Technicians for day-to-day operations, cleaning, prep, troubleshooting, bench readiness, ESD/contamination control, and consumables management
Required Experience:
- 7–10+ years combined experience in lab operations, hardware development labs, test facilities, or EHS roles.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, state/local requirements, and hazardous materials handling.
- Experience building or operating test labs (vacuum chambers, thermal systems, electrical test, mechanical test, etc. preferred).
- Proven ability to develop and manage SOPs, training programs, and cross-functional processes.
- Demonstrated success in capacity planning, scheduling, and operational reporting.
- Ability to manage budgets and justify capital equipment purchases.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and safety audits.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interface with engineering, HR, and leadership.
- Comfortable in fast-paced, hardware-driven development environments.
- Certification (preferred but not required): OSHA 30, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Certified Safety Professional, or equivalent.

- Ability to mentor and direct lab technicians.
- Strong organizational habits; able to maintain a clean and controlled lab environment.
- High integrity and commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
- Ability to respond immediately to lab incidents and coordinate with leadership and EHS consultants.
Benefits/Compensation:
- For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $127,400 to $167,000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors.
